Default Safe boost level?

Just picked up a manual boost controller for my 91' Supra turbo. It has a metal headgasket, and full HKS free flow exhaust system but running on the stock intercooler still and stock injectors, and pump. Wondering what I should set the boost at safely. Kind of afraid of the controller even. Not quite sure what i'm doing. For sure going to wait on my guage though so I can moniter things. Stock is 8psi max, thinking around 12psi Anything I should be afraid of, or would this be a safe way to go? opinions please.

Yeah unless you know exacly the condition of the internals hard to say. I would just stick with factory boost and lock the diff.Take it to 18psi when you can afford to

a friend of mine did that with his single cam. he blew the motor less then a week later so i don't know how the head gasket would have held up.
