running heavier weight oil
hey guys,
well, my turbo car has been smoking for a bit, and its definitely oil. i do live in Miami with 100degree temps, and i have an open wastegate dumping into my engine, so it is my belief that synthetic 10w-30 will burn up.
im thinking of running something along the weight of 20w-50, but is their any negatives, seeing as honda says to use 10w-30. it is a vtec engine (sohc).
thanks for any replies.

well, i live in miami too. no way i would run 10w-30w. i have before and it gets older faster than 20w-50w, which is what i run now, in both of my cars. they say if your engine has 100k miles to use regular oil and not synthetic.

just think about it with the most common sense you can build up. oil get thinner when it's hot, and you have a car with a turbo, meaning extra heat. which oil is more likely to remain consistent, 10w-30w or 20w-50w?

I always run Mobil 1. I use 15w-50 in the summer, and usually 10w-30 in the winter. I never really burn the 15w50 but the 10w30 usually goes through a half quart or so every oil change. This is all on my boosted 110k D16z6.
