Rear Mount Turbo
Just wondering if anyone here has tried it. Im considering trying this in a few weeks, just need a big enough turbo. I figure it cuts cost because theres no need for custom manifolds. I figure mount the turbo just before the catalytic converter have a seperate oil reserve rather than tapping the oil pan, and it should be easy.

This would be on a 97 maxima, i've seen it done before an the cost was about 1600, its the oil system that does add cost. Any info on doing an independant oil tank and return system is a big help, thats one area i dont know much about. Also the intake manifold is confusing me, im obviously new to turbos and im trying to figure out how to connect to it. Do i just get rid of my intake and connect the charge pipes to the throttle body? Wish there wa some sort of diagrams to show this better.

Depending on how much boost you run you will need an intercooler and a bov somewhere in between the compressor outlet and the throttle body. You need to do some reading on Maxima tuning too cause you will need some sort of fuel management. Do some more reading on this site. check out other projects etc...

Im a member of maxima.org, and as for management i'll be using greddy emanage ultimate, and an electronic boost control. Biggest problem right now is finding a turbo(new) small enough to mount in that area but large enough for the power i need. Im trying to turn a 190hp engine into a 350+ hp engine, in a limited space. Also as i said i'll need to figure this whole oil cooling thing out. Im thinking about picking up one of those fuel tanks from jegs, and an oil pump mount both in the trunk and cut holes in the floor for the lines to run to the turbo. Is that theoretically possible, using a small gas cell, the drag racing style ones, as an oil reservoir? Intercooler i've been told by like 20 people should not be used with this car, ecspecially for smaller turbos. As for right now, im just starting to look at welders, i've got a lot of practice to do before this project!!

Smaller turbos tend to blow hotter air because people run them out of the efficiency range making it more neccesary for an intercooler. To make numbers in the 350 range you will definately need an intercooler. E-manage is ok but if I was gonna spend that much money I would get an AEM standalone. As for the turbo I would use the oil pressure from the engine for the oil feed. And use some sort of pump to assist the return oil back to the pan. Or just do a conventional setup. good luck

i have a friend with a AEM standalone for sale cheap i dont have the extra cash for it or i would buy it myself i dont knoe=w for sure if it will work its off an integra b18 and i never really read up on that so if interested let me know!
