Quick pipe sizing question
Again, i cant find this answer anywhere, I just need to know how big of piping to run in my bay area. I have a 3" all the way back pipe that is CATless, and the intercoolers i'm seeing have his spec.
Spouts: 2.5" O.D. WIll this work being the size of the exhaust is bigger and will is fit to a t3/t04 .63? I may be still doing my thinking worng but i just want to make sure i have the right setup for airflow. The exhaus i already have is the THERMAL R&D Turbo-Back exhaust system for a 92-00 civic 2 door. "These systems are made of 3" mandrel bent stainless steel pipe and require some slight modifications to your high-flow catalytic converter. We include an extra 3" flange for an easy installation of the exhaust system. These systems are a true 3" and will not connect to a stock catalytic converter. " I'm also getting a stright pipe to answer why it says CATless. |
Re: Quick pipe sizing question
2.5" is good for charge piping.
3" is good for exhaust. did that answer your questions? |
Re: Quick pipe sizing question
I feel stupid asking, but i'm assuming the t3 sould then bolt up to a 3" test pipe then?
And on this note, does anyone KNOW where i can get a 3" test pipe for a 96-00 civic coupe? Or am i missing something again that the turbo connects to prior to that? Sorry to ask so much, but i've read ALOT and still have trouble understanding some things |

Re: Quick pipe sizing question
what do i search for though? Up pipe, down pipe? i read all the guides and they mention down pipes but not up pipes, yet it looks like there are different bolt patters on each on so i figure it should matter.
I'll search again though ::) |
Re: Quick pipe sizing question
theres a little thread on the top of the forum that says ''NOOBS!! *LOOK HERE IF YOU WANT TO BUILD A TURBO KIT!!!!!!!!*''
very easy to read. use your noggin. |

OR downpipes for that matter. In fact it says nothing about exhausts at all. ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? The one that DOES have a downpipe mentioned is the G2IC turbo guide, but still says nothing about up pipes. I'll just buy one.. Later |

no such thing as an "up pipe".
You have your Intercooler (IC) piping (goes from the compressor to the throttle body) From the exhaust manifold, gases go through the turbo and out the side. This is where you need your downpipe. It takes it from the exhaust wheel routes it underneath the car to your exhaust system (cat, muffler, and out the ass). Does this answer your question? Here is a picture for you... the smaller pipe in the front is the dumptube, this one routes back into the Downpipe from the wastegate. Most people don't route it back into the downpipe. The downpipe the the black pipe curling under the turbo (the bigger pipe the dumptube is routed into). Attachment 33812 picture is of rudebwoy's setup, BTW.. just a good picture of what we're talking about. |

Re: Quick pipe sizing question
Unless there is some terminology I just don't know... that "Up" pipe looks exactly like a downpipe. It has a flange for the turbo and a flex section, often seen in dowpipes to reduce stress on all the parts (since the engine moves). Where did you get that picture of the "Up pipe"?

Re: Quick pipe sizing question
From DC sports (AEMpower.com)
It looks like the turbo bolts to the up pipe, then that bolts to the downpipe? Other dowpipes look like these two together. Again, just tyring to find a way around welding, but still want my a/c so i dont even know if those pipes would work.. I'm trying to figure my piping now for the t3/t04 on my b18c1 in my 96 dx coupe, and wish to retain my a/c and p/s! |
Re: Quick pipe sizing question
this is a downpipe http://www.dcsports.com/productSubCatImages/45_1_f.jpg
this is also a downpipe http://www.dcsports.com/productSubCatImages/45_2_f.jpg this looks like an uppipe for a wrx http://www.dcsports.com/productSubCatImages/46_1_f.jpg downpipes come in differant sizes and shapes depending on the size or type of turbo used, manifold, and vehicle used in a settup. if you have a wrx youll need an uppipe like the one pictured. hondas only use downpipes. |
