Qs about disco potato (gt28rs) on JDM B20a

I have a JDM B20a hard to come by 86-89 accord engine similar to the b20a5 lude motor. Anyway Ive got a kit ready for install Ive been biulding and have hit a major dilemma. The turbo I bought I think may be too samll. Ive got a garrett .42/.48 t3 with a T25 flange external WG. My goal was 250+ hoping for the 300 mark. Ive been told the turbo I have is more or a 225-250.

9.4:1 Cr on stock closed deck sleeves
probably custom rods, pistons, cams
uberdata FMU and all

this is my first turbo project please be nice. also Ive read nice things about the disco potato does anyone here actually have one and what do you think of it? Does it really spool as ;low as they say? any other q's please ask. thanks Mike :)

first of all, just b/c your motor is jdm, doesn't make it good, b20a's suck. i think you'd have a hard time getting 300 whp out of it. the .48/.42 will get you over 200 easily which will be faster than you think. what car do you have and what year is it? you don't need an fmu with uberdata either, but by the sounds of it, your obd0 and can't run uberdata anyways, you have to use turboedit. just start reading a lot, it will take a while to figure everything out, so just start buying the parts you know you'll need (turbo, manifold, piping, wg, bov, etc.) and learn the rest as you go.

I think the B20A is one hell of an engine. It's just hard finding a 5-speed tranny to go with.... Boost that mutha now!

Yeah that turbo is good for more than 300 hp easy and it spools ------- quick from what i read about one on a sr20

I hope you have an engine to back that ---- up with because if you knew anything about the B20, you would know it has paper thin cyl walls. and sleeving that thing wont help either, it cracks from the inside out. check honda-tech, honda-acura.net, ask abaz on here. ask him what happend with 10psi (i think)

and who said you couldnt find a tranny for the B20?
there are tons of trannys out there for it.

Are you talking about the CRV B20? Cuz I'm not. 5-speed trannys are very hard to find for them.

This is the b20a1 not the b20a5 from the ludes yes those engines are not biult beefy. Mines a closed deck with a 5 speed. Ive been here for a few days and have read all the posts to page 9 or so. Of the 140+ man thats alot. Mostly d series it seems. The car is an 88 accord coupe thats been converted from an auto to a manual. Ive already got the Turbo manifold, charge pipes oil lines pretty much everything except I changed my mind on the turbo. The one I have know is ready to be installed but Ive got the HKS EVC4 and the Apexi SAFC walbro fuel pump. Im thinking of going with the larger turbo to get closer to my goals.

IUll ask again since Ive seen its been asked but never answered. Is it possible to sleeve a closed deck. I believe so. Im thinking of going with eagle rods, maybe srp pistons, golden eagle manufacturing sleeves if neccasary. Im thinking i could get 15+ out of the stock block not problem with proper tuning which will be done.

Ill be converting to OBD1 in the process and was looking at the aem ams. The uberdata looked promising but I guess not. Lots of info here and its great. Lots of people downgrading things they dont know about also or so it seems. Anyway thanks for theinfo and Ill keep reading sorry for the newb post

Yea you can sleeve a closed deck no prob. If you go to www.3geez.com I believe there is 1 or 2 people who have a boosted B20A (JDM Accord). You don't have to sleeve it but it sounds like you're lookin to go fully built, so if you got the cash give it up. Should be a wicked ass setup and nobody on your block will have it.

thats pretty much what Im looking for. I live on 3geez.com. Ive followed robs biuldup, accordepicenter, justins, openloop mikes b20a. the whole nine you know. Sounds like youve been there once or twice also. How much boost are honda closed decks good for usually?

Re:Qs about disco potato (gt28rs) on JDM B20a

I wouldn't worry about the sleeves as much as the rods/pistons. From what I know about those blocks, they are fairly strong. Unless you're planning on breaking new records I wouldn't worry about the sleeves, unless you really wanted to. A nice set of forged pistons and rods will give you plenty of strength. Where is sean88accord?

Re:Qs about disco potato (gt28rs) on JDM B20a

can i give a lil insight to the mans project?

lookie here ppl...im not an expert but ive studied these motors up and down and have built them alot...ive even helped convert 2 of them to vtec but i havent done it myself due to $$ issues...my 89 lude has an almost stock b20a5 in it...i turbocharged mine with 8psi and it runs great, after i learned how to tune it better...its closed deck...walls arent the thickest but i tell you the block will love up some 15psi all day every day if you just tune it pretty good...doesnt have to be top notch either...now i would recommend rods and pistons....pistons wont take more than 12 to 13 psi daily driven...and the rods dont like more than the same as the pistons...14psi at track racing only and then turn it back down to 12...the key to this is just get an safc apexi box and learn to tune it good...get a wideband O2 sensor and you will be fine...the sleeves are good to about 17psi with a really good tune...now if you wanna get ballsy ive seen 19psi stock sleeves but that thing had an immaculate tune and it was a track car only...i wouldnt ever think of more than 15psi stock sleeves with rods and pistons....just send it off to golden eagle if you wanna push more than that...and for 300hp...you will reach your goal with 15psi man...for all those who think the b20a motors suck....hell you should see tony baker on prelude power.com...its built to the gills, one BIG ass turbo with nitrous and alcohol injection....and his ---- screams power....i seen his video of when he was only at 14psi...he dumped the clutch in second gear at 6500rpms and was doing a 50mph burnout...that ---- was bitchin....dont hate on our motors just because we cant rev to 8k rpms safely on a stock motor....all i gotta say is we got torque...and its nice....

my buddy has his lude with 10psi and a pretty good tune, 236hp 243ft lbs of TORQUE...gotta love it....

louie

p.s. transmissions are easy to find...especially in my garage...i have 6...and one of them i just finished installing my ITR LSD into my 91 b21a1 trans with 1st,2nd,3rd gear from my 89 b20 with the 4th from the b21 trans and the 5th gear out of a GSR...i wonder how this thing will do for me...i guess ill wait and see.

Re:Qs about disco potato (gt28rs) on JDM B20a

cool guys thanks alot. yes im planning on getting some new pistons and rods. so the disco potato would be the better choice for what i want. Ill check the fuel managment forum so please done haze me but I thought the Apexi Safc was only good for like 9 psi. ive already got one and the hks evc 4. I was under the inpression for anything over 10 psi or so id have t run standalone and not a hack. I plan on having everything tuned on the dyno by a pro thats not me ;D. Im good by the seat of the pants but thats about it

uncle lois if i found the gearing on the 3geez website would you mind looking at it too seee if its good or not the way it sits for like auto crossing and some street stuff. I know the b16 diff from quaife fits in it.
