puting BOV on turbo side of the FMIC... good/bad/nothing to do?

basicly as tittle says...

me and my friend are arguing about it, he wants me to pu my BOV on the turbo side of the intercooler basicly cause he says it's gonna sound louder... and also cause it will reduce the pressure faster from the turbo wheels...

is there any advantage to putting the BOV on one of the side of the FMIC... cause it's not often that you see a HONDA with BOV on turbo side

before I forget, I have a b18b engine runing 10psi (on garrett T3 if someone's curious)

thanks :6

Im not by any means the smartest person on the boards but I would think A) it wouldnt be any louder, if you have 10psi of air, you have 10psi of air, no matter where in the system. Also I think the difference to the turbo would be very minimal at the same time, Once the BOV opens I think pressure drops so fast it doesnt make too much of a difference where it is located. Im sure there could be "bad" places to put a bov, but I think almost any would work. There are turbos with internal BOV's, Intercoolers with BOV's, and BOV's on the upper charge pipe....All seem to work fine.

Am I right in saying that the closer to the intercooler the BOV is, the better? Not on the other side though?

I don't think it matters. The throttle plate closes, air builds up and is let out the BOV....as long as it's between the compressor blades and the throttle plate then I think it's all good.

Ya thats what I was trying to say, but I tried to explain it.....bad attempt lol

Well the BOV is made to blow off boost that actually makes it back to the turbo. So technically, closer to the turbo is the least wasteful. If its after the IC, you're blowing off boost that's might not even make it back to the turbo and well its also already cooled air. Kinda wasteful. If its before the IC, it'll bleed only the boost that actually makes it back, and it'll be quicker fill the system back up with boost...if that makes sense. But at this point your counting hairs..so yeah. For ease of installation- (Mainly for a close vaccuum source) I'd say the cold side is just fine :)

hahah it doesnt ------- matter, no matter where the pressure in the pipe escapes, ther eis stil a pressure drop from "blowing off. pick a spot on the piping, mount it and shut up. mount it on the cooler, weld it to your compressor housing who cares. it wont be any louder, and it will function just the same.

Depending on your IC you can have about a 3 PSI drop from going through the intercooler... so 10 from the turbo can be 7 to the intake mani.

air, like electricity takes the path of least resistence when it is pressurized.

wherever you upen up the circuit, you create a zero resistence outlet. the pressurized air will naturally flow there.

the tb is closed, and the turbo is still flowing air towards the tb. as long as the bov is somewhere on that tract your good, and on the new srt4s and mercedes ive seen, the bov is actually part of the compressor housing.
