2004 Suzuki Bandit 1200cc
streetfightered of course everything is done EXCEPT for the oil drain from the turbo... Still debating on where to plumb that back to. OPtions are getting an oil filter sandwhich adapter and plumbing it back into that, or the oil drain plug w/ a banjo bolt, or the oil filler cap on the clutch cover. PS--- i hate fitting braided lines!!!! I only bled once though! so that was good. Now i just have to figure out how to get this jerk inspected... I'm not sure if a turbocharger is part of the "modified exhaust" statute in the RI ordinances? haha Inspections suck. But, here's picture time: Attachment 17175 Attachment 17176 Attachment 17177 Attachment 17178 Attachment 17179 Attachment 17180 ^or could i run the oil drain to the plug under the red AN fittin? the allen bolt there? if my pizza knowledgablities are correct i would say that is little ceasars?

Re: Project TURBO SUZUKI street bike
That's pretty darn cool. Is fuel management needed for carburated motors, or do you just tweak it?

Looks awesome, good use for a spare DSM turbo. But, doesnt the track require that your levers have ball ends??

turbo project
Thanks guys... Front page would be awesome 8)
Lets see if we can answer some questions... Yea, spiked bar's are not acceptable at any track, I had the balls, but one snapped off during my wreck after T-boning a 120lb black lab at 11pm on a back road :X F*kn dog! Turbo is a td05 off a mid 90's eclipse, THEN off of a 91 accord, then into my basement for some cleaning, and an internal rebuild. Now she's fresh! About the orange...The gf already nicknamed my bike Tony. (you'll know why when you see the tank / tail / fender) Not little ceasers... but they're good too! This is a little local place, called Chicago Pizza... even though i live 1000+mi from Chicago. Carb's do need a bit of tweaking to work. There are 2 main types of carb setups that work with Boost. Blow through and Draw through. Respectively, the turbo is blowing or sucking throught the carb. A draw through is putting fuel through the turbo, and only uses one carb... i didn't want to mess with that, plus it makes it more dangerous with combustible air in your charge pipes if there is a backfire. KABLAM!!! So i went with the Blow Through setup. Theory of it is simple... carbs suck fuel and atomize it through pitot/static tubes (jets) Carbs have float bowls... they let fuel in through gravity, and when it fills, the little float blocks off the valve and says, that's enough fuel!!!!!!!! (KINDA LIKE YOUR TOILET, W/ THE FLOATING PLUNGER INSIDE... WELL, EXACTLY LIKE THAT) That is why most carbs for 4 stroke engines don't work upside down. So... If you have 6lbs of boost, the air pressure would just force all the fuel back out of the carbs... Lean out the engine, and just shut it off. (not blow up) To counter act that... WIth 6lbs of boost, you need 6lbs of fuel pressure. A 1:1 ratio. For this, you need a constant fuel pump, with a 1:1 bypass fuel pressure regulator. (meaning... zero boost, zero fuel pressure.) If you get this right, the carb will act as a stock carb... in boost and not in boost. As long as you have a Pitot boost referance source for the bypass regulator, and NOT a static source. Static acts like a venturi tube, creates vaccuum from passing air (like blowing over a bottle top) Pitot is like RAM air... It is direct, and the source is unobstructed, and pointing towards the oncoming flow. However, Pitot and Static matter not as much while IN BOOST, because while in boost, these properties are tossed out the window... The charge system will now act as a pressure source. WHich is a whole other cup of soup. The main issue is the transfer from n/a to boost. That is why the pitot source works best. |

STARTED IT UP TONIGHT!!!!!wOOT WOOT! a little bit of happy :D and a little bit of angry
Turned the bike on, turned the switch for the fuel pump and oil sump (the inline pump) heh heh heh.... Well the plan for the inline Outboard Boat engine fuel pump didn't stack up as an oil return sump. More like a PLUG! Oil filled up in the turbo, and out the seal. She became a mosquito killer! Attachment 17143 ^mosquito killer. I'm running the oil return back to the oil filler hole on the clutch cover. SO... we just bypassed the "oil sump" and ran the hose straight back. Turns out she ran very well after that, turbo was goin good... except a little steady stream of oil back out the exhaust. Also found out the #2 exhaust runner has a leak where it goes into the head. Damn... TIme to pull it ALL OFF and get some orange high temp silicone in there :ban: Where's a good place to buy a scavenger oil pump / sump? I'm hopin less than 100$ I don't want to tap into the oil pan itsself. Not a happy idea to me. Plus there really arn't any good places to tap either. http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...115+4294820649 seems to be the best price, hope someone can find a cheaper one! Here is a video of tonight you may get some info on the setup. no sound, sorry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJCUdf8LL3w ~Kevin PS- I WANT THIS DONE FOR LACONIA!!! |

Re: Project TURBO SUZUKI street bike
PLZ post pics of exhaust manifold and specs of pipe used.
Rat like I like it, beautiful... enjoy. |
Re: Project TURBO SUZUKI street bike
Pics will come soon. Gotta fix a leak in the header gasket.
Used Stainless 1.25" Weld Els from AceStainless.com And straight tube 1.25" stainless. The manifold to block flanges came from the stock header. The manifold to Turbo flange, i had a friend plasma cut for me at his work. (he builds barges) |
Re: Project TURBO SUZUKI street bike
That turbo 4runner that was on here had a pump about that price, you can get them on ebay and ----. It apparently worked really good, and wasn't big IIRC.

Re: Project TURBO SUZUKI street bike
im making a note here. HUGE SUCCESS
i'd like to do that to my xb. FI rules, and so does free tuning software for the buells :) |
Re: Project TURBO SUZUKI street bike
^ um... as Tim Taylor would say... euUuUURGH? huh? This isn't FI, it's carbed~
and isn't an xb a toaster/scion? I WANT MY OIL PUMP NOW! i ordered it TUESDAY, and the order is still "Processing" :S :7 cyclelogicmotorsports.com = slow :1 |

Re: Project TURBO SUZUKI street bike
i just picked up an 86 gsxr 750 im planning on making a "naked" bike out of.... Naturally its gotta have a turbo too, more info on setting those carbs up for boost please. I searched on the intraweb with no success, just automotive carbs. I know you need solid floats and the rising rate pressure regulator, anything else you had to do?
|
Re: Project TURBO SUZUKI street bike
no, you don't need solid floats. The floats will be fine. THey've been tested to 30+psi. Think of it like an Egg or submarine. Outside pressure pushing in, it can take alot of pressure. I had to lower the floats 2mm, Add two shims under the main needles, turn the air fuel mixture screws out to 3 turns, and re-size the main jets.
The fueling is pretty simple. The fuel pump circulates fuel from tank to bypass regulator, to tank. Zero pressure, just free flowing.... until you hit boost. One pound of boost, the regulator will match it with 1 lbs of fuel pressure. Therefore, 10lbs of boost = 10 lbs of fuel pressure. |
Re: Project TURBO SUZUKI street bike
I put a greddy kit on an RX8 and the drain fitting was a banjo bolt that replaced the oil drain plug. Might be able to save some weight, complexity, and $$ going that route. Just build a little skid plate to protect the hose where it routes under the engine.

Re: Project TURBO SUZUKI street bike
I was just thinking, instead of running a fuel pump, what about connecting a boost reference hose to the fuel tank :8
There would of course need to be some check valves n ----, but it seems like it could be easier than adding a fuel pump. |
