it sounds like bb's bouncing around in a tin can.

i replaced the fuel filter this morning and it didnt help. it still has the stock fuel pump. i was thinking of trying out an MSD BTM. The stock exhaust is still on it but we're making a 2.5" tomorrow.

Your stock pump is more than likely causing you to lean out and detonate......Dump it for a larger in-tank walbro.

your detonation problem is most definately timing related. Thing is that you dont need lots of advance to make power. But if you feel like killing it safely try using some hmt style water injection. a windshield washer pump and a spray nozzle should work fine.Id still think that using proper Spark management would be better. and yes the afc does advance timming by undereporting the load on the engine.

Well look at it this way, your at 7psi. Map outputs 4.0-4.2v, the AFC scales it down %36, ECU sees 2.5ish Vo/ 8ish" of vacuum. That puts you about here on the stock PM6 Ign map:

..around 29-33 deg of advance.

You say 9-10deg of base timing and theres no death rattle. (29-33 that the ECU sees) - (8 that you retarded at the dizzy) = 21-25ish when under boost. Thats sounds about right.
All in all Id retard the dizzy till theres no ping, and youll be ok.
In my eyes the hack should be run at 10psi so after AFC scaling the ECU puts you at the WOT portion of the ignition map. That plus 4-6deg retard and your set.
Just my O2, Ive never run the Hack, but if I did this is what I'd do. No reason not to run 10psi on a D.

<--- insert plug for TurboEdit2.0

Wow, thanks for the informative post! Ive been thinking about switching over to some with a little bit more tuning control like turbo edit or uberdata, but im not really up to date with that stuff and its confusing.

Check to make your you installed the resistor box properly. (If you needed one.)

As for the exhaust, it added backpressure. Backpressure=torque you're feeling torque

Backpressure=torque
Not on a turbo car.
