Default Power Steering Removal/Fluid drain okay?

I've searched, read a couple topics on it. Some suggest removing it is bad for the steering rack, but there were a few people that posted up that they were driving without it just fine for a year.

Opinions?

theres a writeup on h-t you have to leave some fluid in there and cap off the feed from the resevoir. and add a filter.

wtf do you need a filter for

i just pulled the pump, attached the high pressure line to the resivoir return line, pull off the line on the rack to drain all the fluid, and then add a little through the high pressure line to lubricate the rack; done.

I removed EVERY line from my engine bay, every hint of PS is gone. I through a little bit of fluid into the VSS and looped it off, then looped off the rack for ***** and giggles, took like 20 minutes to loop ----, I did remove the valve bodies though, awesome write up on g2ic.com.
