planning for summer project, need advice

Ok, so I plan to pop my HMT cherry so to speak (I can see nothing but trouble after that statement....) this summer, but I'm so damn indecisive I don't even have a car to do this with. So here's where you guys can help me. I'm new to this whole HMT stuff, even new to forced induction. I drive a 2000 Focus ZX3, but I don't want to boost it, as it is my reliable *knock on wood* daily driver. What car/engine do you guys think would do well with boost? I have the smallest budget possible, so don't suggest stuff like 2JZs or RB26DETTs. I'd also like to stay away from Hondas since there are so damn many of them; I like to be different. I know you can turbocharge pretty much anything with the proper amount of work and time, but not everything will take a good amount of boost well without blowing up/breaking/etc. That being said, what do you HMT experts think I should look for?

This is a dumb thread. Get whatever you want and boost it.

So you're telling me every engine is the same as far as handling boost is concerned? Don't be stupid yourself.

In my expert HMT opinion, I think you should go fist yourself.

Go boost whatever the ---- you want. We dont give a ----.

You guys are silly. :-* I guess I should rephrase my question. Which cars should I stay away from when planning for boost? I don't want to put a lot of money, effort, and time into boosting something that's going to break two days later. Or will I not even have to worry about that and I'm just being overly cautious?

Oh, and the reason it took so damn long is because school, money, and time got in the way. Too much school, not enough money, and definately not enough time.

Why even bother? You want someone to buy a car for you and ------- drive it for you too? Your being a lazy ass bitch about it. Your not going to turbo for 15 dollars so stfu already. Get a electric supercharger for the win you little ------. You can turbocharge alot of cars with no problem. It all depends on what kind of car your looking to purchase and how much your looking to spend. Do your own research and go to hell.

Dont trip man. Just grow some balls, figure out your own budget and do your research. If your not good with cars then see what cars would be easier to work on. (doesent get much easier then hondas).. Or get yourself a turbo car and call it a day.

Quit with all the sexy talk.

Thanks. I'm gonna be looking at cars this weekend. From there I'll have the engine size, so I can start reading compressor maps and ----. Then once the money starts coming faster (gonna work full-time this summer), I'll be able to start buying. For now, and until my first paycheck, it's plan plan plan.

The whole reason for this thread was so I could narrow down my choices from the start. I figure people on here have collectively boosted a lot of different cars, so what better place to find out what works, and more specifically what doesn't, so I know what I can ignore when buying.

Oh, and as far as the sexy talk, you guys seem like a bunch of homophobes or some ----, so I figure if I talk like that, you'll see how it doesn't bother me.

That was in the past, I DID NOT have the time or money. This summer, I WILL have the time and hopefully the money.

So school away, headmaster.

Actually, I'm thinking about getting a Zetec motor off of FocusSalvage and building that instead of a whole new car that will need insured, plates, etc. If I do that, I already know what turbo I'm gonna use from reading compressor maps: T3 Super 60 or one that flows similar to that. It should spool by about 3k-3.5k rpms, and won't start dropping until about 6.5k, which I rarely ever reach anyway.

you will have now fuel after 6200k unless you run a standalone ems

If I do this, I'll get it tuned by Tom (Focus guys should know who I'm talking about) with an SCT chip from Focus Sport. Not neccessarily the DIY, HMT route, but it'll be cheap enough, I presume.

Man you totally got your head up your ass. You remind me of a few guys on a rival team that my group doesent get along with because of this kind of thinking. You talk talk talk your ass off about this and that, and are NEVER going to do it because your too ------- stupid to make up your mind, research and take peoples advice that actually know something. People on this site put together setups that are less than half the cost of a HKS, Greddy, whatever setup and that whoops the "kit" in the ass. The kit has no chance against the setup that guys have got going on here without dumping more money into your 3500+ dollar kit. Thats you.. A 3500 dollar kinda kit guy. The only reason you would buy it is because some homo you met while driving to jack in the box did a ricer flyby and you chase him down like you would a girl with DD tits. Then you ask him what hes got under the hood and he tells you.. You offer him road head for the specs and he agrees.

Does this sound like something that would happen to you?

Like I said, get some balls, some brains, do your homework and SHUT THE ---- UP with your SCT chip from Focus Sport. Stick the chip in your ------- -------!!

BLAAST 04-14-2007 08:16 AM

Re: planning for summer project, need advice

I guess he can make a 95% HMT setup on his ZX3 and since the tuning is really not the area to cut the corners short, even when on a budget, a SCT programmer (300$ ish) with an ebay mustang gt MAF and 42# injectors could be a neat way to do it right without breaking the bank.
