Default Pics/Story of my turbo setup...

Well, at the request of Jeff, i am going to post my custom setup here on HomeMadeTurbo.com.

It all started out as innocently as any other turbo project... the first thought was to do a very simple budget setup to see how fat we could go on $2000. Well, that didn't last for very long... hehe. The car started out life as a relatively stock 88 CRX Si with a few suspension mods... not even I/H/E (had a very ghetto Intake tho.. heh)

So what did the plan wind up saying? Well, the car now had a new goal, and that is basically to go as fast as it can go, regardless of the mods... neat, huh? LoL. We did have one other goal though... there was a meet that was coming up that i wanted to get the car ready for, so that i would be able to take it to the show. Well, things were going well, and we were collecting parts, but at the last minute, we had to change which CRX chassis that we were going to use, because it was clear at the time that our race chassis could not be finished in time (we have a black CRX that will wind up with all of this stuff... thats the other car i'm talking about). So, we had to not only change our entire plan, but we had to remove everything from the black car, and put it on the yellow car, but we only had about a week and a half before the meet... So, it was thrashing time, and unfortunately it was during the week, so my normal car building "crew" could not be there, because they had their own jobs. Yea, i didn't sleep much. Anyway, basically within a week, i (and every now and then some friends) were able to remove everything from this car:

And put it all into this car:

To wind up with this car by the end of the week:

The setup doesn't look all that simple from the outside, but it really is... the engine is a stock block/stock head B16A running 10PSI with a Turbonetics T3 turbo. It's only form of protection is a Cometic headgasket that lowers the CR down to 9.2:1. Fuel is provided by a completely stock fuel system, with the exception of the 450cc DSM injectors. Engine control is provided by ZDyne.

I'm sure that there will be questions regarding other parts of the car, and if so, just ask away By the way, the car dyno'd out at 227hp... dyno chart:

And so far, the car has done a best at the track of a 12.54 @ 109.9... that is, when it is not breaking driveline parts... haha. Right now, the car is down for the count due to a broken diff... It by far was the best launch the car has had to date, and would have definately been a low 12 if it hadn't broken... ::sigh::

And here is what the car looks like this very moment:

Any questions?

Actually, it is the "Digital 6 plus"...

Full slicks... 24.5x8x13

are the DOT approved?
It'd be nice... hehe. but no, they are not

and that roll cage, u do that yourself?
The cage was built by my chassis builder up in South Carolina. The name of the shop is "TL Racecars".

It currently is a Turbonetics T3... very nice turbo. I'm sure it'd be fine for creating much much more power on this setup, but there is going to be a changing of the guard, with a T04 60-1 , or a T62... i have to decide yet how much street duty the car will realistically see. but the engine and fuel going into the car will be able to handle pretty much whatever i put in there. I'm leaning towards the 60-1 though... we'll see

The cage cost $2400 (i think) including the wheelie bars... but since the rules for the class are now available, i won't be getting the wheelie bars installed... instead i'll have credit with the builder for something else if i need some more work done on the car.

Thanks! Yea, the black car certainly gets my blood going much more than the yellow one... hehe. The only problem with the black car is that its "daily drivability" is much worse than the yellow cars' is.

how do you keep your engine bay so clutter free? where are you hiding all the wires, hoses..etc.? i need to know how

it's all about placement and hiding... just look at your engine bay, and if you see a wire that can be moved, lengthened, or tied to some other wire to clean it up more, then lengthen, cut, move, do whatever you have to do to clean it up For instance, on my engine, the injectors are tilted so that the plugs and the wires for the injectors come up in between the runners of the manifold, and hook into the injectors. That way, i don't have a big trail of wires running over my intake manifold... it makes it 100x cleaner (i'll get a pic of this later).

Just a couple of suggestions that i can see from that pic for your setup... Get rid of the alarm horn... move it somewhere else. Get that MSD coil mounted somewhere else, like down on the side of the frame under your overflow canister from your radiator. Whats all that crap by your battery? Why not try routing wires cleaner in that area? And one other thing i did, is to run the oil feed line under the engine rather than over it... this makes one less "thing" in the engine bay to see. And the last suggestion.... if you use no other word of advise, use this... the furthest down in the engine bay that you can mount things, the more "invisible" they will become. Anyway, it's all in the little things by the way, got a better pic of that manifold of yours?

Yea, but that pic is messy... hehe. Anyway, the turbo specs are .63a/r on the exhaust, with a stage 3 compressor wheel... Here's the pic of it:
