Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
While I'm waiting on my new motor, I figured I would mock up the setup on the old one on the engine stand. A few things I want to change are the clocking of the passenger side turbo so the oil drain drops straighter and make a few exhaust connections tighter.

where'd you get that intercooler and how much :) i need one |
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
Thanks, man.
The intercooler was from HP performance and was 740. The turbos are smaller than the big T3s but use a T3 flange. It is hard to find specs on these IHIs. Erich |

Nice!

Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
holy ---- 740 dollars for that cooler! damn
|
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
wow, very nice setup but i have one question. would you need two blow off valves? at first i thought that you would need two, but since both turbo charge pipes are connecting to the same end tank on the i/c all the boost would just find its way out to the atmosphere because its the lowest pressure?
nice setup 8) |
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
yeah man lookin pretty sweet so far... good luck on it :)
|
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
wow looks insane dude. but rhb5's are tiny tiny turbo's. wouldn't you want something a lil bigger for a 5.0 liter? somethin like a .42/.48.
and holy huge engine bay. from the way that stuff is sitting it looks like your bay is 3 times the size of my civic lol. damn! goodluck with it dude |
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
your engine bay is so big... i could live in it.
|
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
those are the biggest RHB5s i think... a little bigger than yours johnny
|
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
The IHI t-snails actually aren't that small. Are they a man. or auto snail? That'll determine the size. It think the auto's are 48/60's and the man. are 60/63. Pretty much the exact same size as the Garrett unit but the IHI units are not really wanted that much.
|
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
i must be thinking of different rhb5's ???
the ones i know of are tiny turbo's |
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
yeah there are a few different trims of the RHB5, from little dick pea shooter scooby RHB5 to the bigger Thunderchicken ones like hes got. I think they are closest to a 60/48 or 60/63 t3 turbo like stillnoturbo says. The flange is a T3 flange on it, and they can be had in good condition for real cheap. There are a few non Garrett/AiResearch Turbos that have T3 flanges, i think the KKK K03 turbo does too

Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
The two bovs were a recommendation from HP. They are small cheap ones so it is not bad. It sounds pretty cool when they release in stereo. But actually it kind of kills the stealth thing so I may eventually run them back into the intakes.
I think these IHIs are reasonably sized for a 5.0-they are off 2.3 L 4 cyls (for the IHIs, they used the same size on manual and auto trans birds). These IHIs have been used on 5.0 by others with pretty good results. They are on the smallish side but on the other hand they do spool almost instantly. I plan on keeping the revs below 6K with the stock block, crank and rods so the turbos running out of steam by maybe 5 something K should be ok. The IC is supposed to support up to 1000 hp-hopefully even 3/4 of that is true. I figure that I will most like build a second generation setup later and go to larger turbos with a more built motor so at least the IC part can stay. Funny about the engine bay. I never really thought about it being big but when I think about putting all that piping in a honda bay-wow there IS a lot of room. I like how the turbos fit on the honda setups-really close in to the motor. It is like they are meant to be there in the first place. Erich |
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
Very nice....whats your engine setup? Im planning on eventually doing a single setup on mine with the explorer intake manny and gt40-p heads.
|
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
Man I think you have a fortune wraped up in the T-bolts and Hose couplers alone!@!
|
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
I hope you plan on making some brackets from the engine to the turbos to support all the weight on those headers.
Looks good =) |
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
The new engine set up will be stock block, cam and crank. Forged probe pistons and rods. GT40P heads. 9.2:1 compression. The intake I have is a stocker. I may try porting that. The GT40Ps have better plug angle for the flipped headers.
I was thinking about making brackets for the turbos at some point. Seems like a good idea. Erich |
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
how thick are your B pipes?
its just really embarressing when your turbo falls off in your engine bay, chicks dont dig that. ;) |

Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
nope those turbos he's using are tiny too. they are nowhere near the size of the t3's that are used in the older turbocoupes and svo mustangs. nice setup though, slap itin the car and see what it runs
|
Re: Pics of mustang 5.0 TT setup on engine stand
The turbos are smaller than the larger t-bird T3s but I think they larger than the probe version of the IHIs. In any event-they ARE small.
We shall see what she runs... Erich |
