Default To paint or not to paint? That is the question.

I have seen at couple of places where they paint thier turbo exhaust housings black. Does this help with heat displacement? Have others here painted and seen any difference? Does the color matter or can you use any thermal paint (i.e. Engine paint)?

they probably powder coat it?
sand blast it if you can... use header primer and then header paint that should keep it from warping and peeling off.

Even if I go to the trouble of getting it painted correctly, does it actually help?

in terms of heat discapation, no not at all. paint does nothing but look nice. and protect from rust. they do make a wrap for headers that protects other parts under your hood from absorbing heat. but i heard it destroys your header over time.

Thanks. I was thinking that it either did not help at all. Have any good places for the header/downpipe heatshield wrap?

Jet-Hot will ceramic-coat it for you, that will NEVER burn off! Oh yeah- They claim that it does make a difference, at least with exhaust manifolds....
