Default Overheating/Coolent System Issues - Solved

Damn, I haven't posted in the FI board for a while... Feel free to talk ---- Kyle. NE wayz, Im ------- clueless at this point and ready to take my care in to a shop. Maybe someone out there has some ideas. For the past 5 or so days my car has been overheating but I can figure out why. At first I noticed my oil was LOW due to a loose fitting on the back of the block/oil feed line. I was thinking the heat was building quicker from increased friction. I went ahead and fixed that and and added oil. Nope, didnt help. I also noticed water spots on my charge piping and on the Rad resovore tank. I went ahead and poped the rad cap and damn, the ---- was half empty. I added more fluid I figured that was that. Again, didnt help. My fan, for what ever reason, doesnt turn on no matter how hot the engine gets. Had the same prob on my old 98 EX. I fixed this by wireing the fan to stay on. Even with the fan constantly running it still gets hot. Heres the thing, It over heats only after I push the car and reach full boost. after that, the car wont stay cool. I also noticed that the fluid keeps overflowing from the catch tank; Not from overheating but from preasure. The fluid level gets low then the car starts to overheat What the ---- is causing this.

It seems like sumtin is causing a preasure build up in the coolant system. I idled the car w/ the rad cap of the see if it was a head gasket situation but no bubbles so everythings ok there. Could it be a clog in the system, in the rad or elsewhere? Maybe its an air pocket? Would a higher psi rad cap help or maybe the thermostat isnt opening up? Could I remove the thermostat to keep the fluid flowing freely and quicker? Ive done this on old mustangs and it helps. Also When I turn up the heater full blast to cool the engine it blows cool air half the time, even if the temp needle is at the top. Someone help please!

maybe you have air bubles in the coolant sys. and not alowing your thermostat to open. ?

unless its a head gasket. Its your oil milky or your coolant diff. color?

here's what you do. empty the radiator and take off the thermostat. connect the thermostat hose back on so coolant can flow through it. fill up the radiator with degreaser (simple green) run the car like that for 45min to 1hr. empty out the deg. and flush the rad. w/water. put in a new thermostat and fill up the rad. 50/50 water and coolant. if that doesn't fix it, whip out the compression tester and buy a 12pack.

theres an air bleeder to bleed out air from the system, and you should change your thermostat. Mostlikely your HG is fucked from overheating so many times.

First I'd try to burp the coolant system and if that doesn't help then a new thermostat and/or rad cap. If none of these help then I would just assume it's the headgasket.

sounds like the headgasket if its pushing coolant out the overflow.

im with him on this one.

ive had the same problems before.

more than likely your head gasket is bad OR your head is actually warped now.

just take that ---- apart, put a new HG on, get the head resurfaced, put on some ARP head bolts and be done with it.

i agree, i have the same problem...the coolants buiding in the over flow.
i been told its the head gasket and thats the only thing i can think of now, i also was told that sometimes the head lifts a lil during boost, specially if the head studs have been used over and over. mines have been remove and installed 3 times already so there not as strong as the use to be.
so thats what im a try, new HG and Headstuds.

ive tried bleeding the system, new 1.3 bar cap, new stock cap, new radiator, new thermostat and it still does it, so im a just change my HG and stuff.
thing with mines is my car doesnt over heat at all, i was gona try rigging my fan to run while the cars on.

but give this a try....when driving ur car, dont boost, try to drive it normal for a while...then check to see if the coolant spills into the over flow. for me...it only does it during boostn hard.
i can drive from my house to tech school (70 miles) and just boost a lil, not at full boost, and it'll be fine. but if i see someone on the freeway and i punch it, thats when it starts to spill into the over flow

Thanx for all help guys. After I posted the thread I went over to my moms house w/ a 6 of Red Strip to due some serious investigating. I went ahead and let the car cool then checked for coolant leaks...none found. I didnt assume there would be any since Im loosing fluid from the tank overflowing but had ta check. I pop the rad cap and tried milking the hose ... radiator hose, and a few bubbles came out. After that I decieded not to pull the valve cover off and check in there. I started the car and let it idle for about 15 mins then checked back. No smoke from the exhaust but Damn, the fluid looked low and some had overflown while I was gone. I figured maybe it was from the vibrations but then poof, I lil white cloud came from a bubble in the system. ----, right then I new it was the head gasket. Im guessing that when I hit full boost its been forceing an *** load of air into the coolant system and thats why its starts to overheat only then. Oh well, at least its a leak and didnt blow all the way through. I checked the rad for bubbles I didnt let it idle long enough and wasnt paying enogh attention. Turbo head gasket time! Ill still compresion test when I get a chance. Can anyone recomend a decently priced turbo spec head gasket? Im thinking about buying the Mr. Gasket stackble steel set. Thanks for da help again guys.
