Ive been looking at those radiators on ebay. They look nice and Im considering buying one too. Anyone have one. Lets get some reviews...

It sounds like you just need to upgrade your cooling system. Are you running the fan constantly? When the car starts to overheat and you turn on the fan, do the temps drop?

 

whatever radiator you buy is gonna be real close to the radiator. If I where you I'd put a piece of that chrome looking heatshield paper that is used to wrap the ac hoses
on the spot between the radiator and the turbo.

 

I have a thought, why don't you just pull the thermostat and try and do a few test runs like that.. might be the ghetto solution you are looking for.

 

Actually pulling the thermostat wouldn't help cause the thermostat regulates the flow of coolant so that it has time to cool down in the radiator, with no thermostat the coolant will constantly flow not cooling down like it should in the radiator.

Today I was messing around somemore and when it started to overheat I popped the hood to see if some air would help it out and to my suprise it did! Mabye all I need is a hood scoop? Guess that big front mount is blocking all airflow. I'm going to look into making a ghetto hoodscoop right over the turbo.

I know someone with a turbo h22 g2 teg who has tremendous heating issues. he has stuff routing air up from the bottom of his car, and he also cut a very large hole in his CF hood where his manifold is.

 

I don't mean to sound like a dick about this one, but I think you're wrong on that man. The more water that flows the better off the entire cooling will be. Why do you think cars have thermostats? Cause if they didn't then the motors wouldn't reach full operating temperature and your heater won't blow out hot air when you need it to. Like I said, I don't mean to sound like a **** but I believe the pulling of the thermostat will help you in your flow situation. You could always give it a shot and see if it works for you.. maybe ever get a much colder thermostat.

Either way, let us know how your ghettro scoop goes, do a writeup of whatever mods you make.

I do not think you should buy a new radiator. Are you sure the radiator has sufficient coolant? Sometimes if you pour the coolant in too fast it creates air bubbles in the system. So, the coolant raises to the top of the radiator much quicker and give you the impression that it is full and it's not. One way to ensure the system gets sufficient coolant is to let the car idle, turn on the heat to full blast, and trickle-full the radiator.

Based on all the things above that you have done/checked, and if you are sure you filled the radiator properly, it must be a faulty temperature sending switch.

I normally squeeze the top hose a bunch of times to milk the bubbles out.. but just check it after you run it.

I think the problem is more then just amount of coolant or quality of coolant.

 

A nifty little trick i learned from some gay *** rx7 owners is to toss some washers under the bolts holding your hood on it raises the hood and has the same effect as a cowl hood on a mustang. From what ive heard its pretty effective to stop the overheating of the rx7 somewhat.
