Default only boosting 5psi

i have a 95 civic ex d16z6 with a t3/to4b turbo with a safc2 and dsm 450cc injectors. i have a deltagate external wastegate and i have 4 diffrent springs. i tried them all none will hit over 5psi. i checked all the intercooler pipe cuplers and the intercooler for boost leak. also when i try to boost in 1st gear and i floor it it wont boost it just sort of bucks but if i ease the gas it will sometimes boost in 1st. could it have something to do with timing retard? im getting it retarded monday. any ideas

first make sure its not a leak, a quick way to make sure its not a leak in the pipes or exhaust leak, disconnect the vacuum line from the wastegate and go in third gear, and ease into the throttle and watch the gauge really close and if it goes past 5psi then that is your problem.

You've got some sort of restriction in your exhaust it sounds like. That was exactly what mine did when I first installed my turbo. Switched to a test pipe and 2.5" exhaust and I was back up to 8 where I should have been.

Have you got a clogged cat or something like that?

sounds like a boost leak to me. get a squirt bottle and fill it with some soapy water and spray your charge lines with it.. if you get bubbles.. you got a leak. :-)

no it can't be a leak, if its ALWAYS running at 5 psi. There is something wrong with either the wastegate opening to early, or that something isn't flowing right. What size intake pipes are you using? Are you using an intercooler?

Still doesn't make sense to me to be a leak... if its always boosting to 5 psi.

Have you tried removing the wastegates vacuum hose and seeing if you can get up higher in boost? If its still locking at 5 psi, you've got a block somewhere. Doesn't seem like a potential leak.

Another idea is to try checking the compression (hook your boost gauge) up to the vacuum hose (T it off) that attaches the wastegate to the turbo and see what kind of readings you're getting there.
