Oil Supply for Holset

What size oil supply line are you guys running on the holsets? Do you need a restrictor like the garretts? I went to get a fitting for it and the smallest they had was a holset magic size to -5AN or -6AN. Is that going to be to big or do you think it will be ok?

Re: Oil Supply for Holset

The holset manuals say 60psi max pressure and 90psi for cold start. Measuring pressure at the point you are tapping from would be the best idea.

Re: Oil Supply for Holset

Holsets have internal restrictors. The fitting size depends on which turbo you have.

he351VGT. I didn't see a restrictor in it. I guess Volume is not the problem then, just pressure, so as long as my oil pressure doesn't get over 60psi I should be good. I'll have to take a pic of it when I get home. The hole is pretty huge. Aero, what are you doing for the oil supply on yours?

Re: Oil Supply for Holset

I drilled and tapped the fitting that came in my turbo to fit an NPT to An fitting. It is fed from the head. At the oil filter housing from the stock pressure sensor location I have 60-70 psi cruising at 3000-3500 rpm. The head is somewhere below that, I haven't measured the pressure there.

I can't remember if the braided line is a -3 or -4.

Re: Oil Supply for Holset

Yeah, I have a -3 right now and would love to run that, but then again the hole is so huge going into that thing that I am worried the -3 may not be enough.

Re: Oil Supply for Holset

im using -3 line on mine, and so far so good...

i just took that fitting that came in the turbo, the one that is like a brake line, drilled a hole in it and threaded it to 1/8 NPT and threaded a npt to AN fitting in it and ran a -3 line from the oil pressure sensor fitting on the back of the block to the turbo. like i said, so far so good...

Exactly what I did too.

I got my o-ring fitting from a hydrolic shop. $4 or so for my entire oil line setup.

The HE351VE that I have has a completely different size than the HX40 that I had before. You should verify that it fits the HE351VE before you order it. IIRC it was quite a bit bigger than the HX40 oil fitting.

Got distracted and didn't get it ordered yet. I have one of those right now but it goes to -6. Think I will order the -3 so I dont need to get new oil lines.

I couldn't remember if it was the right thread type.
Good luck.

Re: Oil Supply for Holset

My holset came without the stock inverted flare fitting that people thread the m12x1.25 fitting into. I had to use a gas tank coupler and tap the inside to m12x1.25 and used that. Then I drilled out the fitting and tapped it for a set screw with a 1/16th hole in it.
