Oil Pressure!
I was wondering if you guys had any ideas you have tested about dropping oil pressure at the turbo. On my supply line I get 75 psi cruising, 45-50 at idle. Those are warm figures, too. As you can imagine, it smokes like all hell. I know a .060 restictor might work, but has anyone ever found a valve or regulator or something (and of course actually tried it) that works?

Re:Oil Pressure!
a needle valve will work.
but also remember u need to have a gauge after the valve to see how much pressure your dropping it.. good luck |
Re:Oil Pressure!
Doing a needle valve setup right now. Ill drop by your work and give you a peek.

Re:Oil Pressure!
hey specialfx does your car smoke just when you get off the gas or even when your punching it.

Re:Oil Pressure!
Thanks guys! It's all cleared up now, good old needle valve. Still, I can't believe the biggest tuning adjustment I've made was to my oil pressure...

Re:Oil Pressure!
so how does this needle valve thing work. where can i get one and how to fabricate it into the oil feed

Re:Oil Pressure!
how much psi should a b16 oil pressure be at idle, and cruisin , mine is at 20 psi idle, and about 70 cruisin

Re:Oil Pressure!
can anyone tell me how to make that needle oil feed thing

Re:Oil Pressure!
what is the pressure difference between oil in the crank or at the oil sender and at the inlet?
how does hose size affect it? im gonna run the vinyl hose for the oil gauge and 3/8" tranny hose to the 14b inlet line which is like 5/16" |
Re:Oil Pressure!
Needle valves are available with many different sized ends, I just used 1/8th npt because that's what I tend to use. Anyway, this needle valve deal has basically a box with a valve inside of it and an inlet and outlet. There is a little handle kind of thing on top that controls how far open or closed the valve is by closing down on or opening up on a hole with a needle. Put it inline to the turbo oil inlet, put your pressure guage fitting after it so you know pressure at the turbo, not pressure inlet into the valve. I adjusted mine to about 25 psi and it rises to about 45, which is better than 75 in most cases. I think LeeD has more info on exactly why excess oil pressure into the turbo is more than just a smoke problem. I don't really know.
