oil leak problem,drain line backing up?
 

i've got a lot of oil leaking onto my garage floor, i'm pretty sure most of it is coming from the turbo feed banjo bolt, i got new copper crush washers when i took it off but the ones i got were a little big on the i/d, they don't fit perfectly around the bolt. i'm losing like 1/3qt. a day, i definitely can't keep this up, its sitting in the garage for now. where can i get some crush washers of the right size, without having to go to the dealer? i tried all the auto parts stores, the ones they have are all either too small or too big on the i/d. also, does anybody know the torque specs on those bolts for a mitsubishi 14b?

*EDIT* i replaced the crush washers, and it still leaks out of them. when i take the bolt off the oil feed, there is oil still filled up in the feed hole for it, it kind of slowly glugs down. could it be that my drain line isn't draining fast enough? it doesnt smoke AT ALL. runs good. i'm using 1/4" feed/5/8" drain. i'm not using a restrictor fitting, but the fitting on the back of the block b4 it runs to the tee on the firewall has a hole in it about 1/8" in diameter. i know most people use about 1/16" for a restrictor, should i maybe use another 1/8" fitting? i'm still having trouble understanding the flow vs. pressure argument about using the restrictor plates. maybe somebody could clear it up for me...

bump, i'm losing like 1/8 quart oil a night, somebody help me out i can't go refilling oil every time i fill the gas...

any pics of the oil feed on the turbo? best I can suggest is spend some money and get a steel braided line and 7/16 fitting for it.

it has nothing to do with the line, i used 300psi 900 degree transmission line. it'll hold. what i'm worried about is with the drain flange, when i mounted it up to the oil pan, it has a slight *i mean slight* upward angle to it. maybe 5-10 degrees upward at most.

maybe try out the oil restrictor from stealthmode 8)...post some pics of the drain angle

oil can be backing up........any way of making it a more downward flow?

well i have a HF mani too and that ---- makes the turbo REALLY low so it is a bitch to get a good angle, i gave up and tapped it practicly on the bottom on the pan, and it leaks a little but i dont think its from the turbo :P

well first off it sounds like you need to fix the banjo bolt, alot of the oil is coming from there.

if the leak then persists, how is your oil pan tapped? make sure your adapter to the oil pan doesnt leak. Personally I just always have a steel fitting welded in, no need to mess with weird bolt on ----.

There is your problem, you tapped the oil pan to low, if that is below the normal level of oil in the pan it is just gonna back up, I say get a new pan and tap it higher up and see if that helps...Matt

its only coming from the backside of it, i'm fixin to give it some jb weld treatment, see if that does the trick O0 i used a 1/2" barbed fitting with 3/8" threadings, drilled and tapped with a 3/8" NPT tap, used locktite on threads and jb welded on outside just in case.

short of getting a moroso oil pan or something that lowers the pan, i'd be hard pressed to... and this is the budget build, so that's out of the question. one of those suckers would cost half of what i've spent putting the setup together.

does the 14b have a gasket that goes to the oil drain flange? this could be what's leaking too, i've noticed some oil on the hose where it connects to the drain flange, and dripping down the hose.

lol, i just realized that i am a dumbass but oh well...well in that case, my return was leacking when I first installed it...I didn't know how cause i JB welded both inside and out so i hit the outside again, still no fix, then i tightened the clam on the barb fitting on the pan and that solved it, use a socket and not a screw driver to tighten it down, hope I help you this time ;D

already using socket, learned this method after blowing off 3 charge pipe connectors lol.

Yea as did i, uh, my t3 drain flange had a gasket it wouldn't hurt to us them rtv or silicone selant if you don't have a gasket just use it sparingly and wait for it to dry u don't want that getting sucked up into the oil pump or ask stealthmode he might be able to get you a gasket

speaking of sucked up into the oil pump... when i took my oil pan off i found half a rubber o-ring in the oil pickup tube... is that bad lol? wonder where the other half is... ???
