oil in brand new turbo

Re: oil in brand new turbo
you need a restrictor, I have a brand new sc61 and was running 75psi oil pressure, and I had oil in my compressor housing until I install a restrictor, so I have 30psi at WOT to the turbo now I have no oil in the compressor anymore

Re: oil in brand new turbo
drain is very smooth and pretty much a straight shot
i orderd a restrictor from stealthmode
somthing about a brand new motor with brand new oil pump makes me think im pushing way above the stock pressures
friend of mine saw pressures close to 100psi at 3k at start up with the same motor as me so none the less we both orderd them
any idea how to tell how muhc to "restrict" or is it a sort of guess and check game

Re: oil in brand new turbo
T in a mechanical oil pressure gauge under the hood inline between the retrictor and turbo, thats how I run mine. I lot of people ask why I have a pressure gauge under my hood, some call me ricer for it but if they only know.

but if I was you I wouldn't run it without a gauge. I killed a turbo 4 years ago by adjusting the pressure without using a gauge. go to autozone they have mechanical gauges of various brands. autometer is like $40 and sunpro is like $15 .

Re: oil in brand new turbo
there is a reason why every factory turbo car has a restrictor, and by a restrictor I don't mean a valve operated device.
My last factory new turbo came with a factory restrictor fitting from the manufacturer, if you don't use a restrictor even if it didn't leak when new it wouldn't take long before the pressure and volume of oil would take it's toll on the seals.
The best type of restrictor is an inline fitting, buy a steel male/male fitting with the same thread as the turbo on one end and get it brazed solid and then drill a hole ~3/32" or 1.5mm in diameter, screw one end into the turbo and the other into the line, or a quick disconnect which then connects to the line.
No need to worry about it getting loose.
If it still smokes, then repeat above but drill a smaller hole.
Best'O luck

Re: oil in brand new turbo
well i have installed a restrictor-still smokes even when almost closed
upgraded my drain and re done it 3 times finnaly got it semi downhill with 5/8 line -still smokes
how long would it have taken to blow the seals out on the turbo when i had a bad drain and no restrictor
like i said the turbo was from westcoastturbo and was fresh when i got it

Re: oil in brand new turbo
The only help I can offer is that when I got my turbo it came with instructions in BEG RED LETTERS to fill the turbo with oil in the inlet right before you fisrt start it. This might make a difference but I would think it would really matter how long the turbo was sitting on the shelf. (seals might dry out ya' know)
