The official internal wastegates suck thread

been fighting this internal gate forever now.

when boosting with no boost controller it spools to 9psi, then drops to 7psi.

with my new mbc on it spools to 13psi for a split second, then drops to 12psi, then bleeds off more down to 10psi.

i have it shimmed out at the mount point on the compressor to try to get it to sit closed in vacuum but it still seems to be open a little tiny bit.

Im bout ready to find me an audi wastegate or something and do what we did to Jeff's, but I wanted to ask first if anyone has used any other turbos replacement actuators that are adjustable at all with any success, and if so what they used and how much it boosted.

lemme know

proabably not gona help you out any but maybe consider going with an external wg? im not sure what kind of mani you got, but theres someone on here who even welded an external wg to an HF mani! im getting a fresh start with my new car so im getting a mani what has an external flange. NO MORE UNSTABLE BOOST! :D

Fook,

I'm running an almost identical setup as you on a CRX/minime. I have my turbo clocked a bit which skews the stock gate. But I also am using longer bolts and a bunch of shims (partly because I need to inorder to make it sit stock.. and then a few on top of that). With the Stock 14b gate I get 9psi with no drop off at all. Maybe try a different stock gate and a few more shims?

I got an extra 14B gate sitting around if you wanna mess with it for a couple of bucks.

And if you doo end up going external you can always cut off the internal gate dump tube and weld the external onto there. I think weirracing did it to his t3 flange.

Fook see your PIR post for the easy way to fit internal wastegate boost spike. ;)

I've tried multiple 14b gates, no need to send another. I am however gonna try adding to my two shims today.

I'd really rather do it at the top of the manifold like we did with Jeff's. More clearance and I already know he got good results from it.

Dave, Two reasons I won't do that. First, it seems to me that solution is more like covering up problems than fixing them. Second, its not even a cheap solution. If I spend that much money, its going to be on switching to external wastegate.

They're supposed to be like 14psi yes. But when Jeff cut only 1 coil out of the spring it would only hit 4psi. With his boost controller, a rock solid 9psi.
