Default NOOB 2004 Silverado 8.1 swap 6 speed Twin Turbo

Hi everyone. I am slightly new to the turbo world. And i of course have lots of questions.

First off let me start buy telling you about my project.

2004 Chevy Silverado Standard Cab Short bed 4.3 5 speed truck.
Thats what it started life as. I had planned on when buying it to v8 it etc. pretty much a hot rod truck that i could fit in since I am a taller guy. And I have realized having a truck for hauling things is wonderful.

Anyhow I originally after 6 months of ownership swapped out the v6 for a 1996 vortec 454. Running off a mefi 3 controller and using mefiburn software. Ran pretty good but i had issues with the intake setup and trying to run tall valve covers etc. I was going to swap it over to coil per cylinder. But that was right about the time the economy went to crap. So after selling some stuff including the 454. I ended up horse trading for two 8.1 gen VII big blocks. At the time I was uneducated about tuning the stock pcm or how similar 8.1 and ls based motors where, so for the price of tuning software I bought a megasquirt setup and a ls1 msd controller which i converted to run the 8.1.

So at the moment the truck has a stock 8.1 with a 5 speed.

you can find some videos of it on youtube under my name sb0mbsilverado.

Now after joining the Army. I am in korea with nothing better to do then dream about my truck. Last week I put a deposit on a ls t56 to swap into the truck with as much as I could upgrade on the inside including face plating the trans for full throttle upshifts

Also a dual disc setup scatter shield etc are on its way.

I have the other 8.1 getting rebuilt to probably an 8.3 with a very mild zz502 camshaft forged pistons h beam rods cnc ported heads all in preparation for a set of turbos.

My goal is to build a truck that can be driven and hopefully at least make a 1000 hp at the wheels. Which I think is obtainable.

Ok I have a little turbo experience and some supercharger experience.

Yeah thats me with hair working on Barry Grant's truck

First set up we did

So anyways enough digressing...

Trying to figure out what turbos to run on my truck and what else I need. I have a general idea. But thats about it. So far I think this i what i want to run but from there I am clueless.
62 Billets T4. The wastegates are Tial 38 MVS and Tial
50 BOV.

I want to run a full length header and mount the turbos pretty much off the end of the headers next to the trans. I know on the sts kit i installed they had a suction pump for getting the oil back into the motor from the turbo. I was considering running a seperate system for oiling the turbos. But mebbe thats a little bit over kill. I also am clueless what i should do about an inter cooler. And I am up in the air about staying with my megasquirt setup or running the truck pcm or possibly going to a tec3r setup. I am also trying to figure out the best route to take with an intake setup. The way it is looking is a sheetmetal intake and either a accufab monoblade throttlebody or possibly dual 90 mm throttlebodies on top of whatever intake i decide to run.

Ok feel free to suggest post links etc. I tried going thru a couple of the stickies but all the local links where dead.

sounds like one hell of a build. cant really help you here as i cant image the size turbo's you would need for such a massive engine. dont forget to tow a tanker truck behind you..

very nice build up so far. The turbos you have chosen i think will do you well. BUt what i would do is set the turbos up like how they are on the grand national. Put them in the front of the motor.. It will be easier that way for the plumbing for the intercoolers. That is what i would do. Also you gotta think that that will alos be tricky runnign the piping back up to the throttlebody. But as far as that i think you have your mindset on what you want to do.

Well there isnt a ton of room. and I can run the piping up the frame to the inter cooler then from the inter cooler to the tb's. It also helps keep the heat away from the motor.

yea that is a good point but then at the same time i would be worried about road debri coming up and hitting the turbo. I would just look at other possiblities. ALso one other thing is that heat from the turbos doesnt effect the motor as much as you think on the outside. I mean it does but lots of other turbo cars run it with no problems.

Well its not heat to the motor, its all the plastic crap underneath the hood melting, including the fender liners

yea true. i would just more or less worry about road debi hitting the turbos. Also you gotta think if where you were mounting the turbo will be right next to the gas tank. Which is plastic. When i read through this thread i went out and looked at my truck (01 Chevy Silverado Reg. Cab SWB 4.8 L) i just looked at all of the possiblities. But also you have a much much bigger motor then me also LOL.

Oh I plan on getting rid of that tank as well. Got to build a fuel system to handle that power Where the spare tire was will be the new home for the gas tank.

PTE's recommendation

If you are looking at hitting 1000 whp @ 15psi I would recommend twin 76HPS billets. If you are looking for a twin setup that would be good on the street that would make around 800whp I would recommend 67HPQ billet.

I personally think his math is off.
