no downpipe

We just boosted my freinds civic and we have not put a dp on it yet. It will not spool the turbo until about 5k rpm.
Would running no dp cause this?

Re:no downpipe

prob.ly not.

but with all those hot exhaust gas, somethins going to melt in the engine bay for sure :-X

14b but I think it still should spool before 5k rpm and will only get up to 5 psi on the factory wastegate which should be 8

pwned by leakage???

Re:no downpipe

check your vacumm lines... open dp would spool faster!! so something is deff wrong with your vacumm lines probly.. check them and come back

motochris 02-13-2005 08:48 PM

Re:no downpipe

It is not an open downpipe. There is not one at all so I guess you could call it open 02 housing? :-X

i3lazedx 02-13-2005 08:59 PM

Re:no downpipe

wait does it have the o2 housing? or nothing at all? anyway id still check vacumm lines.. charge pipes... and get atleast a dp to get the gasses under the car or something..

Re:no downpipe

you prolly either have a boost leak or a fuxored wastegate

Re:no downpipe

I have no downpipe, nothing melted in the engine bay, and im fully boosted by about 4500 rpms.

everything is dirty as ----, but it still spools fine.

Re:no downpipe

I actually read somewhere that too little of backpressure hurts spool up. Even with 3" exhaust everyone is running you still have that much more backpressure. Maybe that makes since :P

this could be it or a weak vac source for the wastegate

The theory behind this is that internal wastegates were designed when there was backpressure so when you have no backpressure than the internal wastegates will slightly leak. I don't know if this is true or not but its a theory I've heard

frank fulls spool by 4500, your ---- it fuckt too, my t3/t4 on my d series spooled 16 lbs by 3800 your runnin a 42/48 trailor trash turbo

I also have a stupid ------ non ported hf mani, crush bent pipes, flex pipe, so im sure that might be part of the reason. not to sure, but its a pretty decent assumption. ;)

and a trailer trash 42/48? its pushin the same amount of boost as that wasted sc61 you think is so bad ass. ::)

comparing 4psi from a .42/.48 to a SC61 is like night and day. Not even a comparison

motochris 02-14-2005 10:57 AM

Re:no downpipe

we did not have a gasket for the bov so that might be the prob.

my point was, hes pushin 8psi out of a sc61.
to each his own. ;)

Re:no downpipe

carb spring that beast and see what happens. Mitsus are likely to have bad wastegates.

Re:no downpipe

My 1.5 spools my 48/60 T3 full boost by 3800 and I have crappy intercooler piping and a log manifold too... That 42/48 should be spooling faster for sure. Oh, and so should that 14b.

Re:no downpipe

dude i installed a T-25 on my friends z6 with a HF manifold thats not port matched neather is the adapter plate be is running stright 02 he starts to spool at 1700 so you deffinate lf have something fucked up cheack you turbo for cracks in the compressor housing and make sure the bolts in it are tighten go around look at your charge pipes for boost leaks but if its not spooling untill 5k then its something wrong with the turbo

sohc_mshue 02-15-2005 10:56 AM

Re:no downpipe

my friend was running a 70trim turbo on his b20 with no downpipe at all and had no spoolup problems whatsoever so i think something is messed up with your wastegate.
