New user- Check out my build

Hey everyone, Ive been on here for about a year now and decided to join. I love anything DIY so this is the forum for me. Ive looked at every build in the turbo projects section and they are all amazing. I drive a 1995 Subaru Impreza All Wheel Drive. Im building a kit for it right now and just need injectors and a few gaskets before I install it. It will be a 1.8 litre block with 2.2litre heads. WRX manifold, uppipe, and turbo. Ill be using an HKS downpipe and an STi catback exhaust. Intercooling will be done with a huge FMIC and piping via the CNC advertisers on this site (cant remember the name). Ill post pics of the build when that time comes. My goal is 200-250 AWHP.

cheers
:8-pete

haha yup we turboed wes's 2.5rs and to my knowlege he sold it to some kid from quebec for 7500 whos picking it up thursday. car was pretty quick for 5-6 lbs of boost.

im planning on running 14-16 on the 1.8

we'll see how long until it blows up. my CR will be lower though

Good Stuff. I've been thinking of finding an older impreza, I have all of my stock turbo parts from the WRX, oh yeah by the way I have a WRX, and making a low budget setup, just because I can.

keep us posted, I'm interested in seeing how easy or hard it would be.

Re: New user- Check out my build

LOL Subby's with anything over 6 psi on a decent size turbo equates to death unless you can take out a ---- ton of timing.

turbo_L 07-09-2006 06:32 PM

Re: New user- Check out my build

there is quite a misconception about subies that start N/A and go turbo. Ill try to clear that up now since Im sure there are plenty of people who dont know much about them on here.

1. Any engine with close to 10.0:1 CR's and a shitload of boost is going to blow up unless your bottom end is built.

2.The N/A ecu advances timing SOOOOOO much above 4k rpms.

3. Most guys who turbo N/A do not realize how much the ecu advances timing.

4. Most guys who turbo N/A engine do blow them up

5. Lowering the compression with bigger displacement heads and using the Perfect Power 6 for fuel and timimg will make for a reliable fun to drive car.

Lookin' good. It took me a while to figure out that those were cylinder heads bolted to the exhaust mani laying on the ground :1

looks good man.. should be a fun car

Re: New user- Check out my build

So the kit is on....running no boost. The fmic piping isnt connected yet so im still running N/A. I think I may be the first person to try this combo so im gona lay out in detail exactly what I am doing. First off heres the video:

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e7...uff/th_aaa.jpg

Specs: 1995 Subaru Impreza L
-1.8 litre block (EJ18S)
-2.2 litre heads (EJ22E)
-EJ22E head gaskets
-EJ22E intake manifold, fuel rails, sensors
-WRX exhaust manifold
-ERZ uppipe
-TD04 (wrx turbo)
-HKS Downpipe
-Tial 38mm wastegate (not on yet)
-Custom 3 inch exhaust w/ magnaflow muffler
-SAFC (emanage goes in this week)
-Custom FMIC (pipes get welded this week)

As of now the car is running great. I have some vacuum issues to address but overall the engine is awesome. When we first got it started after letting some oil run through it, the valves were tapping very loud. The next day I went WOT a few times and it must have cleared the oil passages because now the heads sound great. I am unsure of my actual displacement and compression ratio but hope to find that out soon. I am assuming its between 1.8 and 2.0 for the displacement and 8:2 and 8:5 to 1 for the CR. The wastegate, emanage, and FMIC piping all go in this week. Should be fun.

Nice..upgrade that turbo & itl go dam hard.
STI's are also animal but I'd prefer a 4g63 .. :P that raw mitsi sound + big turbo :6

turbo_L 08-13-2006 03:03 AM

Re: New user- Check out my build

yeah the 4g63 is raw....but i prefer my subaru. the turbo is fine for the power im looking for.

Re: New user- Check out my build

just did a compression test. 150ish all around. that puts me right where a wrx is....sweeeeet!

I love the sound of those boxer engines. Best sounding 4 cyl in my opinion.

i don't know if he has one...but you wouldn't hear it anyway since there is no pressure in the piping. Looks good man, keep up the pics

sounds that way because of un-equal lenght header. you can get the same sound from a porsche 914 with its opposing 4. ;)

true story. throw equal length headers on and itl sound just like any other honda.

Thats cool that you did your homework, and you're willing to share your knowledge with others. So what if you look greasy in the pic, we all have our mouments when we're wrenchin around.
Seriously, I could just say that when I installed my Tial, the supplied gasket that connected to the mani melt and nearly left the W/G detached. So I sprayed copper spray and it's golden, the carbon acted as a sealer.

nice project, let us know when you have the charge piping finished :)

Re: New user- Check out my build

So if you put an un-equal length header on a honda do you think that it would sound that way?
