Default New thread for mbc...old idea sucked

Ok, scratch the last thread I made on a mbc. What I was going to try I ended up breaking anyway, so it's back to the drawing board. It's going onto an egay 38mm wastegate, spring is an 8 pound spring. I need to jump it to 14-15psi if possible, but I don't usually deal with boost controllers...I usually just get a larger spring. So now I'm confused...should I use a bleed-style mbc, or get one similar to a "grainger valve"? I'm thinking more towards bleed style, but hey...never hurts to ask.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...?topic=75418.0 Maybe?

I just rocked the normal eGay style HMMBC. I had an internal gate that fluttered more than an a PMSing girlfriend that thinks cheating is "wrong".

I checked that thread out 100%. It's a great idea, but I don't need a 2-stage setup. My b16 has no torque as it is, and I'm shooting for a good mid-range powerband and a max of 15psi from a modified tdo5h 7cm^2/14b. People may doubt the turbo, but I tested it on a friend's 93 eclipse...threshold at 3100 and held rock steady 22psi to 7800. I just need to get it up to that 14-15 mark, and that 8 pound spring just won't cut what I need to get out of it. :P If I still had an internal gate setup I wouldn't worry about it, mbc would be no issue and a grainger valve would've worked fine. :P

you can't go wrong with a simple ball and spring mbc.
here are some other options:

Just pull off the vac line for the wastegate

Why don't you want to get a new spring, probably cost you the same as ,making an MBC....

just toss some vice grips on the wastegate line and pinch them down to dial up the boost

Mostly because I want some control over it, just in case I run into an issue down the road. It would kinda suck to get a tank of bad gas and have to deal with detonation until I could drain the tank, use it all up, or pop the motor. At least this way I could turn it back down to a safer level. I do have a 3.63psi spring that came with it and I've even thought about tossing it in, but the 8 pound one should be ok.
