New and Need answers to some basic turbo ?'s.

I have a 96 civic dx 4 door. What engine is that exactly. i think I read d15b somewhere. is that right?

How much horsepower will a very basic homemade kit produce. I realize there are lots of variables, but what is reasonable with safe boost level on stock components of my car?

How is fuel mileage affected by adding a turbo?

What kind of 1/4 mile time are you looking at with a safe turbo for this motor. I have heard 14-15sec. Is that right?

Finally, what is a reasonable budget for a project. No frills, just thrills. How cheap can it be done safely? I dont race or anything just want some more punch in my sluggish dx for driving pleasure purposes. I would like to get around 150-175hp when it's done?

ANy help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have done a lot of reading. The problem is that the more you read sometime the more confused you can become. Too much varying info can be as bad as none at all. I was just hoping to maybe consolidate some experience and opinions of others to form my own. I have read so many rediculous quotes of cost, hp, speed, etc. that I dont know whats legit and what isnt. Not trying to pull the lazy route, just trying to get some straight answers.

When building a HMT project, cost varies GREATLY. Sometimes you can get lucky and score free or near-free parts from DSM and WRX buddies. My personal advice is to wait for good deals. They ARE out there if you look hard enough. Get a shopping list together (research) and start looking around. Check junkyards, ebay, and classifieds on this and other boards.

I'm not sure of the engine model. It's a 96 civic dx sedan>> I think its a d15b.

Yes it's a d15b. If somebody knew the horsepower, gas mileage, 1/4 mile time, and budget it really wouldn't matter much would it? There are too many variables. The best thing you can do is keep reading and learning. Don't worry about the numbers. :)

Damn, you couldn't have researched too much if you don't even know what engine your car has in it. Come on........ :-\

I wasn't sure, but it only took me a few seconds to type in "96 civic dx specs" into google.
