Need some turbo info.

Hello everyone-

I am new here, and have a couple of questions.

I had the chance to get a turbo for free..I just had to pull it. I took everything I thought would be useful. I have little to no knowledge about turbo's.

The only real markings I can see right off the bat are...DH 1/4 Garrett M4 and M4 AR 48... besides Airesearch. Does this help in identifying?

This is where my questions start...It is either from an 87 or 88 Saab 900. Can anyone tell me what type of turbo it is...what it is worth..what to expect out of it...where to look to better identify it..or if I can even use it...

Thanks in advance,

T3 flange, .42/.48 A/R. If it's free, take that bitch.. What kind of motor is it going on?

Edit: Expect some douche bags to get on here and flame you, just ignore them, but do try and get yourself a rope

Of course. I always expect to be hazed as a noobie. Yes, it was free. The bolts were a real son of a bitch. Thank you so much for the info. I plan on putting it on either a d15 or d16 for my 91 civic. I'm not planning on running too huge of a boost. I'll be using it as a DD, so I'll want reliability, just some more power.

If I find a low mile motor...is this turbo small enough for me to run stock internals?

What horsepower should I expect out of this (safely) on the motors stated above?

Thanks again.

Re: Need some turbo info.

It'll run fine on a daily driver d series. If anything, its a bit on the smaller side, as it is the smallest T3 that I know of. But it will max itself out at around 250hp, but will be a better match for between 200 and 225hp. Stock internals should be fine, just get it tuned or learn how to do that yourself. Nice daily driver turbo, since the boost threshold is pretty low

Wow. Sounds like it was just what I wa slooking for. Can't beat the price...Should I take the intercooler and down pipe as well?

Depends, some of the Saab intercoolers are more like radiators, but if it isn't the radiator style (you'll understand if it is) then snag it. And snag the downpipe, cause you could probably use it somehow to cut and weld more ---- to in order to make it fit on your Honda

That's the good one, here is the one I sold, you can see why its the radiator style...

That one is a bitch to fit in anything smaller than a big truck, but 78Nova is gonna try, so we'll see if it can be used...

Re: Need some turbo info.

Oh I see. I didn't have anything to compare it too. Looked like a rad. to me ;)

So besides piping, oil lines, tuning...do I need much else? I've seen that I can use my stock header 91 STD hatch, I might just buy one with the adapter built in.

I originally planned on just grabbing this setup for down the road use, but now that I know I can use so much of it, it has me excited.

Thanks again for all the info.
