need more grip...but how?

ok heres the deal i have 99 civic si turbo charged, after i got new intercooler and ic piping and test pipe the car is insanly fast, my car comes with 15 inch tires and on first gears the tires just spin, even with me and my friend in the car (430 lbs.) the cars front tires just cant grip, they are kumho supra whatever tires, is there anyway to get more grip besides buying new wheels and tires? maybe different motor mounts or suspension parts anyone can recomend? if not does anyone know a website with good wheel + tire packages?

if you want straight line, go with drag radials
just don't whine about tire life ;)

oh, you could put wheelie bars on the back and set them up to put pressure on the front wheels ;D

Re:need more grip...but how?

maybe you have to much pressure on your tires??? try deflating them a bit???? or maybe your car is too slammed and your camber is fucked up and your tires only grip from one corner...

that would pose serious traction problems...

Re:need more grip...but how?

first u have to tell us what kind of suspension you are running my friend.. u better at least have some springs on there and if not get some fast, they will be the cheapest large suspension and traction mod you can buy. also ur rims arent going to make a difference... just the tires get some street slicks or dont bother upgrading tires.. but with any kind of slick and springs alone its almost impossible to spin even in racing situations unless ur a horrible driver :-\

If you really want traction buy a QUAIFE LSD.

you could put some glue on your tires

Re:need more grip...but how?

I've read good things about the phantom grip, it only runs like $300 something, which is much cheaper than a quaife...they USED to run like a grand...i run falken azenis, they're sorta drag radial and H rated...

quick fix= let some air out. ;)

Yeah an LSD would probably help, but i still think you'll have traction problems. Time to just skip first gear and jump right to second. lol

feather the clutch ;D..... and deflating too much is just as bad as too much air, the tires cup in

Soak your tires in gasoline and light them on fire right before you race.

Re:need more grip...but how?

thank you guys for your very amusing solutions, i like the one about soaking my tires in gasoline and lighting them on fire..., as for suspension its completly stock, someone said something about springs? what are these spring you speak of and where can i buy them, and my cars suspension isent fucked up or anything, it only has 59,000 miles on it there just to much damn power, and someone also said something about being on a straight line, what happens is i start off nice and slow and as soon as i punch the throttle boost biulds up at by 6 grand the wheels are spinning all the way untill 8 grand, if like an angered beast.

Re:need more grip...but how?

welcome to the club...if your running stock suspension thats your problem. get struts and coilover. FWD sucks because all the weight transfers to the back so you need to get rid of that monster body roll by a stiffer suspension than you'll stop spinning. Or get a trans with taller gears

Re:need more grip...but how?

stiffen the rear suspension.

another solution would be to either change the length of the end links or use spacers between the bar mounts and chassis on the front sway bar to jack the weight across the front axle so that you have equal weight on each front wheel. i've seen FWD minivans with 1.8sec 60' times using this method.

does your car have ABS? i'm working on a cost effective traction control system that cuts spark based on wheel speed info from the ABS sensors.

Bigger exhuast housing if you used a HMT, if you have a pre-fab, non- garrett kit... You can always go "supra style". "het wanna race ?". "sure". "ok, I'll let you hit it first from a 80mph roll..".

FWD = no good..

BFG drag radicals hook-up the best, but nitto DR's last longer and hook-up almost as good..

There is a supra that runs at least 8.9 on nittos ( 8.9 is what I saw it run.. Who knows its best time.. ).
