Default need help with my BMW m20 engine

Hello ! I whould be greatfull if u can give me a pice of advice... this are my problems :
1st thing i have found this turbo on a junkyard i don't reaay know what tipe it is
is sayz year(96) on it and the air intake it;s AIResearch and the exhaust part it;s Garrett
also it has an internal wastegate if i am going 2 learn how to post pictures i can post some.
i whant 2 know of this turbo is good for my bmw e30 2liters engine. and i whant 2 know
at what presure this turbo works ? and how can i lower the air presure (is a air presure
regulater going 2 do this for me like a boost controler? ) or is it enof for me to cut
in half the actuators and use a screw in the middle section in order to control it's lenght ?
And if this is ok how do i calbrate it on 5.5psi ?
if u can help me with this is greate.
The second thing about the turbo it;s this ... the air intake weel was opend and it has some
marks on it like someone squeezed the top of the wheel with something...i mean the part close
to the screw doze this mean the turbo is fucked up...is it going 2 loose it;s balance ?
how can i balance it back ? and how bad is it for a trubo to be out of balance ?
the shaft has verry litle free play on the left right side i think this is normal and
no free play front and back
the second problem is how can i solve the engine managment problem at my BMW 320i from 1989 ?
(the cheapst way) i mean no black box
Is the Air Flow Meter going to read the extra turbo presure ? i only have
larger injectors on it now (bosch 4 holes) and the car runs really
good no other modification there was no need to calibrate the injectors or anything else...
it's probably adapting... but the turbo is not on yet
Is the AFM going to detect the volume, temperature, of the intake air charge
and then will send the information to the computer, which in turn computes how much
fuel is required to mix with the air and then it will fire my the injectors the right
amount of gass ? Do i put the AFM befor or after the turbo ? Or this won;t work ?
i was thinking into using also 3.5 bars insted of 3.0 at the fuel presure regulater
is this going 2 help ?
I don't plan to use to much boost i was thinking at Low boost (5.5 psi)
Please excuse my english i am from Romania(Europe).Any help is much apreciated 10x

Well first off welcome to the board. And second this site doesn't know to much about bmw's. But we can try to help since this is homemadeturbo.com. If your turbo is out of balance, it isn't good. You should get a new one since it would cost way to much to have it fixed. You are right about adjusting the boost with the wastegate arm. Just cut in half and ajust it from there. Don't know about your injectors and engine management for your car. I would talk to a bmw board about it. They have it all figured out like we have our cars figured out. The size of your turbo depends on the size of your engine. What is the displacement on your engine? It is probably like 2.0 to about 2.5. Thats my guess. Let us know and someone will tell you what to get. i'm not to good on that subject. Good luck

There were some recent posts (about a week or two ago) about people turbocharging their beamers. It is very possible, the hardest/most expensive thing will be the management. I've worked on many N/A beamers and volvos using the bosch fuel injected systems (Khjetronic and kjetronic) from the mid-early 80s They aren't very user friendly.

Do a search for some, let us know what you can find. If you still need help, we are there for you.

I've been told that engine management is even easier on a bmw than on a honda, because the stock computer can detect if you install larger injectors and compensate for it. As for whether or not the air flow meter can detect the greater ammount of air entering the engine, i'm not sure.

b4 we can tell you if it will work is you need to tell us what the specs are on the turbo you will see it on the cold side of the snail like example A/R .43 and the exaust side is usually in the inside of the exaust inlet like .60 or somthing get it...cause none of us know what a tgis turbo is ... what car did it come off of you know what im sayin

first off i hate to turn people away from this site but dtmpower.net has tons of info on this. there are tons of people running boost to there e30 325s and are making lots of power. from what i remeber reading is that for fuel management most people use the e30 m3 ecu and chip it...

good luck with ur e30 and i hope to see boosted pics on here soon....

Hey man, no harm in telling people the right place to go, I tell plenty of people to go look on H-T to find info all the time. When in rome, go to the roman websites (yeah, that didn't make sense).

Anyways, I would have hoped that you would have looked one page back and found this post:
https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...threadid=21322

some answers to boosting bmws right there.

My friend has a turbo BMW and he uses megasquirt. I forgot how much power he made but it was crazy. It was running bad too. The megasquirt ecu you will have to build. You can datalog and run a laptop in the passanger seat. Real slick setup.
The turbo that you have now sounds like it is messed up to far to repair. One of my freinds had a piece of slag on the hot side fan from welding on his flange and it blew the turbo. they have to be perfect or they wont last long.
