My winter upgrades
Warning all haters, DSM inside
Just thought I'd show all those interested, and all the haters, what my plans are for my Talon over the winter. Old setup consisted of a PTE mitsu bolt-on 50 trim with standard supporting mods, running off E85. New stuff for this winter is as follows: T3 manifold (Bringing it in Friday to get Jet Coated black) Borg Warner S362 turbo with .70 T3 turbine housing w/ V-Band out (Bringing it in Friday to get turbine housing Jet Coated black) New non-sealed beam headlights so I can just change out the damn bulbs and not the whole glass somabitch. (Had to cut off stock harnesses and wire in an H4 harness. So far seems to work just fine after rewire) Tial 44 Wastegate -wapping out Forge MBC for new Hallman MBC New complete SS turbo back utilizing only V-Band's Fidanza 4.3 clutch New Dogbox Racing built tranny Homemade Intake Manifold (raw aluminum is paid for and waiting to be picked up from Discount Steel) 1G N/T Throttle Body CF Hood to replace my dented up stocker Still sticking with E85 Couple pics below. All positive and negetive comments welcome :-* http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/attac...1198200857.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/attac...1199849398.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/attac...1200019675.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/attac...1200098178.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/attac...1201056812.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/attac...1201056839.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/attac...1201056839.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/attac...1201056856.jpg |
Re: My winter upgrades
looks like an egay special turbo.....if it is gl on it not falling apart in 2 miles, though it says borg warner i say otherwise............
what power do you plan to make? i got a buddy who swears up and down that he ran 20 psi on the stock turbo/motor and he would crush any car on the streets lol. |
Re: My winter upgrades
It is a BW Extended Tip S362 from Bullseye. For the insane amount of money these turbos cost, it better not fall apart in 2 miles. So to answer you, no it is not an ebay special. I did a lot of research before decideding on the one I want, and ordering it from Dave at BEP over the phone.
As for power, well every dyno reads different, and our local Dyno Dynamics tend to read low. I was putting down 366, and I'm now hoping to break into the 500's, and net me my first 10 second pass. And if you don't know the specifics of these turbos, you could compare it to something like a GT35 as far as flow numbers. But due to it's extended tip design, hopefully she'll flow a little more than a GT35 at higher boost levels. |
Re: My winter upgrades
sounds good. to bad you dont live close to me, id have you meet him and run him on the street/strip. i doubt he would even be able to pass you..............

Re: My winter upgrades
i hate dsms, but i got respect for anything that is fast and well built. I give it a thumbup
2wd or 4wd? |
Re: My winter upgrades
Sorry, I guess I didn't really give a backround on the car besides what I'm chaning. It's a 91 AWD. Has a Mahle/Eagle built 2.0, along with just your typical supporting mods for what I'm doing.

Re: My winter upgrades
sweet ---- homes how much was that BW ? im lookin for somthin similar to a gt35r but cheaper
|
Re: My winter upgrades
I got a hell of a deal on it, but typically the one I got is a bit spendy, around $1400. They aren't cheap turbos that's for sure. Also for the most part, BW turbos are oil cooled, non-ball bearing center cartridges. That's something that I liked, because I did not want to run coolant lines.
If you're looking for a cheap alternative to a GT35R, what about picking up a non ball bearing PTE SC61? Those can be had for what, like $800 brand new or so? |

Re: My winter upgrades
Quick update of where it sits as of today. I leave for Spain today for a month, so while I'm at Spain my buddy will be building the new exhaust for it. Then when I get home, just triple check everything and hope she starts.

Re: My winter upgrades
Not bad, car is looking good. While in Spain you should meet up with Walter :6.

Re: My winter upgrades
Well I got home from Spain on Sunday. Took the whole week off work to get some stuff done. Got lots done on the car. Was able to start it up for the first time just to make sure it would start. Exhaust will be built sometime this week hopefully, dropping it off at the shop who will be building it tomorrow evening.

Re: My winter upgrades
Got some other misc stuff done. Had to slot some holes to lower the hood latch a bit to get it to fit better. Also put the hood pins on which helped as well. Hood fitment is much better now then it was originally. Also got the vent attached to the new hood. Put in the new front speakers (thanks mr. hill). Got the interior back together for the most part.
Rinsed off a lot of the dust. It's still dirty but looks a lot better. Cousin should be here shortly to tow her away to get some exhaust built for it. Then it's just triple check everything, work out any bugs, and have at it! http://dsmstyle.com/forums/attachmen...1210806267.jpg |
Re: My winter upgrades
She's alive, and idling like a champ. Did a couple quick pulls. I'm seeing about 46lb/min flow at 20psi, but I'm way down on power for some reason. But nice to have her out and about and running well for the most part.

Re: My winter upgrades
Looks good Brandon! That BOV is going to work as we speak :P
|
Re: My winter upgrades
That's some high quality ---- right there! Long live the 4g63, those motors are awesome at taking a beating. Good luck to ya, and how do you like that Mishimoto rad? I've been thinking of picking one up for my Evo8.
|
Re: My winter upgrades
You'll have to show me what exactly that BOV is going into sometime!
As for the radiator, it works and was real cheap. The only thing I don't like is the tabs they place on the top of the radiator for the stock mounting brackets, well they didn't line up with the stock mounting brackets what so ever. So I'll have to make some custome ones. Other then that, couldn't beat it for the price! I've gotten some pointers online about my low power issue. I'm going to be trying a few things today and seeing how it works. |
Re: My winter upgrades
Well got to play with her a lot more and even got to take Austin for a quick spin. She is really moving at 30psi, makes me :D Found a few boost leaks though so the car is back down until I can fix them. I'm thinking that this thing shouldn't have any issues running 10's on this setup!
