my under $400 holiday special turbo install (56k suck it) NOW WITH DYNO

this is my 3rd install and by far the junkyest. i pretty much tried to do everything as cheap as possible, but some ---- didnt work out so well.

heres the car - 94 civic ex, 163k, got in a trade, my old turbo kit plus help installing on his 96 civic for this whole car. its rough but runs good and comp test came out great. the muffler was hanging off when i got it and oil was barfed all down the engine, just needed a valve cover gasket. had no plans on doing anything to it but when i sold someone a talon tsi i got a egay manifold and a 14b in with the deal.
Attachment 30252

kinda dumb but i really wanted to make this manifold work, it looks cool, and probly flows good. it was already re-welded and braced too. but with the thick adapter and the way the manifold held the turbo, it was to low with the stock o2 housing, even if i cut alot the down pipe would bang on the front lower support, also the turbo was cocked funny so the drain pointed at like 7 o'clock and made it real hard to make a smooth bend to the pan so i clocked the whole center and compressor
Attachment 30253

then i cut the t3 flange off and was gona weld a 14b one on, but it looked like it would be impossible to get bolts into it after i cut another 1/2" or so off the collector it was getting to wide, so finally said ---- this manifold
Attachment 30254

new manifold installed. we mig'd a thin flange to the manifold, then i brought it to my friend work where he layed another fat bead on it with some huge welder because i thought it looked weak. this one is just easier to deal with.
Attachment 30255

that welder really warped the thin flange.. 2 gaskets + alot of copper spray
Attachment 30256

had to cut some ---- out the way
Attachment 30257

also after i turned the center the wastegate didnt open and close right so i had to rig some more ----
Attachment 30258

here i mounted up the intercooler and made some vents, this ---- fit like it was ment for this car almost

Attachment 30259
Attachment 30260
Attachment 30261

i used mostly stock charge pipes from an eclipse and stock civic intake and some radiotor hoses and bullshit . the napa hose i used for the upper pipe was felt flimsy so i stiffend it up with some wire. probly hard to tell but the stock eclipse pipes actually snakes around the radiator perfectly after i made a cut or 2 and reconnected them with exhaust adapters

Attachment 30262
Attachment 30263

i de-pinned the resistor box plug and the plug in my car, connected them, used the jumper in the plug from my car to connect the 4 to the 1 power wire, then soldered the ---- out of them all, only shrink tube i had was already cut in pieces so i used it. WAY cleaner then inline resistors i used last time.

Attachment 30264
Attachment 30265

boost gauge installed - 1 zip tie to vent

Attachment 30266
Attachment 30267

heres what i was workin with for exhaust, i got the 2.5" mid pipe for free from a friend, and the eclipse stock downpipe for $10, which i though i could make work. turns out it points down at to much of an angle when the turbo is switched around how it is in a eclipse. Attachment 30268

so i just cut it off and this is how i roll right now, dumpin at the ground, until i can get the 2.5" stuff complete and on

Attachment 30269

so ya thats my car, just another civic but alot of "custom" junk on it. i chipped my own ecu and its runnin on a basemap right now so i still gota get it tuned and the exhaust done but i tried to keep track of what i spent on it.

manifold $ trade (didnt use)
other manifold - $25 + 20 shop fees
14b $ trade
injectors and o2 housing $50
intercooler $15
bov $15
gaskets $16
t3 14b adapter $60 (didnt use)
boost gauge $25
VC filter $3
moates chip kit $23
j-pipe & drain flange/tube $10
stealthmode feed kit $42
resistor box $5
misc hardware and hoses $? - probly $60-80, maybe more, probly used half of what i bought. i got a box of ---- left.
eclipse dp $10
injector seals $30

so far $278 (im sure more)

the 2 napa hoses i bought were $15/piece which was a rip but i had to get it done, and i cut one up and ended up not even using it so that sucked. i had some random crap layin around i used which saved me a little, and my car already had a p28 so that was convienient. 2 packs of jb weld were used.

nice man, i was wondering if its at all possible to use the 14b in the opposite direction, with the compressor facing the passenger side? i just wanted to know because i plan on making a kit soon and i wanted to know if its possible. tHanks and once again, nice kit man. :y

Nice. Fix the boost gauge. Take some pipe and just it behind the front passenger tire and take vid. :y

ya sure why not. easier for charge pipes harder for down pipe thats about all i can think of

Looks nice. I'm doing my own $400 project, except its going to be a tad quieter. ;)

very nice especially for under $400. leave the boost guage the way it is, gives it homemade character. make some videos of some rippers.
