I wish I could take credit for the manifold, but I cant. We dont even know where it came from or who made it. Some kid in a mkIV (a car which JD previously tuned) swapped over to the 2jz-gte and didnt need it anymore. Its quite impressive though.

The motor mounts. I was gonna use hockey pucks but apparently no one in ashEVILle knows what hockey is.
Solid aluminum stock.

Finishing the mods to the transmission tommorrow, Saturday the motor/trans is going in, from there on out its just tedious ---- and wiring. Should be interesting pinning the obd2 harness for the aem with honda connectors.

Wicked....I love the custom turbo manifold, similar to what i was thinking of doing. What year is that motor? I assume its the VVTi or no? No that it really matters though.

Technically it doesnt have a 'year' since its never been in a car. Batch test motors are a 'sample' of the motors built to test reliablity and for problems and such. Its missing the critical emissions components and as such could not be sold to the public by my brother's engine distributor. There was some money laid on someone's desk and the engine kind of walked itself out the door. ;)

No its not a VVTI motor, which has weaker rods but when your talking about a proven 700+hp stock longblock that doesnt mean much.

Im using a 'honda' AEM EMS. JD says it will work, thats all you need to know. :6

Actually, im just kinda building the car for fun, and trying out some new ideas. If anyone has any unique suggestions that are within reason Ill try them out just for the hell of it.

Attachment 15383

Im hoping the transmission will hold at least 450hp with these mods.

I think im going to make it an E85 car, since there are now 3 stations in town that sell it. Bosch 1680cc injectors are in my future. That way I can leave the stock 10:1 compression. Should be fun.

Opinions/questions/comments are welcome.

Believe it or not, dark brown metallic is a rare color that was only offered in 89. That other brown color supras come in is what is commonly refered to in the toyota world as 'monkey ---- brown'

Stock GE exhaust manifold. It makes me warm and fuzzy inside. Although that may just be the rum. :P

My brother aka mr2 Guru has a very built mr2 we've been wrenching on for years. Its too heavy and the gears too long but as JD says it has 'chassis voodoo' and is for some reason unknown is faster than it really should be. Its got a 62-1...

I promise the deltagate will have no creep problems. ;)

Eh. I doubt the wifey will let me get another one unless I get rid of the Crx. Such is life.

Do you think that accumulator mod would work on the A650e transmission found on the is300???

In theory, it will work on any automagic transmission with accumulators. I could have went crazy and put a rod in place of the springs and have no cushion, but I still wanna drive this thing on a semi-regular basis, and not have future neck problems. I didnt shim the a-1 and d-1 accumulators because it doesnt need to shift as fast in reverse and into 4th.

The faster I can get this thing to shift, and keep it cool at the same time, the more power it will hold and the longer it will last. More pressure=more holding power.

The neck-snapping effects on the rest of the driveline is another story. I really hope I can break the axles on street tires. ;)

Re: My ugly Supra build (56Kdontholdyourbreath)

I'd assume the AEM system is modular in the sense that it can handle a assload of different types of sensor inputs, ignition pickup styles, and cylinder count. That way they just use the same board, put on a different connector, config it to the respective car - and sell. If I knew I was going to make EMS's for several car makes, I'd definately spend 2-4x to develope it once, than to develope the EMS for each individual car/motor.

I do like that manifold, my friend with an IS300 will flip when he sees that. He wants to turbo it so bad, and since $$$ is his limitation + I've done Honda sinktraps... Too bad it wasn't designed as a fully divided manifold. It would be easy to do that, as it looks like mild steel - the worst part would be dividing the WG tube (split in half, weld plate between halves). Of course that would be pointless if your HX35 isn't a divided style.

I definately would like to see more of this.

Thats exactly how they do it. As JD put it, why spend 10X more for the same ---- in a different box?

The manifold is pimp, and as I said before I wish I had thought of it. Its seriously just 4 90degree els and a flange with a flex-section. Its beauty is surpassed only by its simplicity.

I had debated going with the larger 16cm housing, (mines the 12cm wastegated, which is welded shut) but I really need this thing to spool fast, as the other 2JZ supra in town spools like a son-of-a-bitch, and I NEED to beat him off the line. :6

I have read that alot of the is300 guys use only the rods. I don't blame you for wanting a streetable shift feel. I guess a thicker spring would achieve a similar result? I have a spare mani laying in the garage, I am going to make one like that!

If I get it together and it needs a bit more, it wont take long to pull the VB and put more shims in. The height of my shims = 1/3 the compressed height of the larger spring. A couple more shims and the spring will be fully compressed. The rod wont do anything (in this trans) but block fluid flow in the housing.

Yes a thicker spring will do the same thing. Read above comment first though.

Nice supra.

The only thing ugly about your build is the faces people are going to make when they hear your exhaust note AFTER writing your car off as a pos.

;D

Eh. Its the story of my life. Not to be bragging, but in all seriousness I had to sell my integra because nobody wanted to race it anymore. The nitroused, cammed C6 guys would literally leave the parking lot when I rolled in. Not that I could actually beat them or anything, but I dont think they wanted to find me anywhere close to their $70k+ cars with my $800 homemadeturbo kit integra on street radials.

There have been a handful of quick supras in this town, but nobody writes them off. Not to mention every other turbo car in town is open downpipe.

Thanks for the clarification, I may try the shims on mine to see what it does, I will consult with my tranny guru to see if the A650e transmission will allow it.
