Overall, car runs great and still retains smooth idle. Doesn't stall and actually breaks traction. This is my first turbo project and thanks to HMT, I was able to finish it up with very little issues. Took my time on this one. Took 1 weekend and five days at a few hours each time after work. After initial startup, started smokin' as usuall because of grease and oil. Made a test run on the road and found no CEL. At first, only had boost up to 4 psi but installed MBC and it rose to about 6 psi. Other than that, she ran fine!!! HMT was a really big help on my project....THANKS!!!

So, and the setup is....

you may want to put a screen in front of the sidemount, it will get fucked up pretty quickly from road debris. Looks good though

How much this build cost me?? Not 100% sure but I am 100% sure that it is below $500 ;D

Basically my setup is:
DSM smic
DSM BOV w/intake
Saab T25 with .48 AR running at 6 psi for now
Manual boost controller
BMC Turbo Adapter
miscellaneous couplers/exhaust reducers/fittings
Wired-in 10 ohm 10 watt resistors
supra 440's (going in soon)
FPR from acura 5-cylinder 20-valve vigor?? My stock was ugly as ----!
I KNOW I WILL GET FLAMED FOR THIS....NO FUEL MANAGEMENT (be gentle)
Chipping kit (going in soon)
Dynomax turbo muffler (like the sound of this one)
HKS-style filter

Was out driving it tonight and blew one of the couplers off the piping (maybe not tight enough?) ITS FREAKIN' GREAT!!
SOUNDED LIKE A SUPERCHARGER ON THE WAY HOME!! :D Rice, I know!

You guys are awesome! Thanks for the feedback and comments on my first turbo kit. Overall, I enjoyed doing this kit and it came out better than I thought it would. I was thinking that it would look like a disaster but it did not.

So are you not running fuel management right now? Get that chipped ecu in there, I'd hate to see you blow something up.

Def get some management asap unless you are looking to ventilate your crank case which is also cool.Looks good though nice and clean.

Re: My turbo D15Z1 project.

Have fun with that air filter on the turbo... they like to break from the inside... I'm sure your turbo will love small bits of plastic in it :) I'd put a mesh screen on your turbo as well if you insist on using that filter...

MAJORAHOLE 03-23-2006 08:59 AM

Re: My turbo D15Z1 project.

i wondered about that. aren't those filters just foam?? if so that is crap

HondaTuner 03-23-2006 09:35 AM

Re: My turbo D15Z1 project.

Yeah, they're foam held together by pieces of plastic, plastic that breaks apart quite easily.

MAJORAHOLE 03-23-2006 09:49 AM

Re: My turbo D15Z1 project.

thats quality
when i finally turbo my car i was gonna get one of those green cone filters, heard anything about those? i know they aren't made of foam, but they come in all sorts of sizes. plus i can get a discount thru my werk.

Chipped non-VX ECU, normal O2 sensor, and swap the conflicting pins @ your ECU plugs so your wiring matches normal Honduh OBD1 ECU pinout.

Looks like you have the Valve cover tied into the charge pipe? You should eliminate that if you like your motor.

can't see it in picture but screen is actually in there (figured with that kind of non-quality filter I would benefit from a little more protection). Car still running great. I figure that I am at around 135-145 hp with this kit with everything else all in stock form and it's 2 inch exhaust (that's gay!!). I was on the way to work and was playin around with my co-workers ION. That car is quick but he took of first at intersection and I had to catch him. I caught him and was really closing gap real quick but had to let off because of traffic. Not very fast but what do you expect from a vx?? Still have power AND economy, it's great! Gotta change that DSM BOV because it sounds like a turkey while in normal driving. When I open it up on the road, DSM BOV sounds great.

Would be nice but I think it will never stop. Ive been tinkering with my cars since high school and even if I do reach my goals, I will more than likely start a new one. :) Filter is fairly new and have not began falling apart yet.

yeah, definately will!! I want to see how long it will take before it blows up. ;D Then I can bitch about how crappy this engine is because I blew one up!!

not at all!! ALL STOCK and car is running really well (Maybe coz of stock wideband?). Beat on it everyday and run it till redline with no knocking so far and consistant non-erradic smooth idle!! I'll try to get a video of the car within a few days to show yall that it's not as shitty as people say. Got an upcoming race with a 240sx that pulls great.

145hp is going to loss to a sr20. h ehas to be seeing some deto just not hearing it cause it snot killing him hard yet. one of these days its going to scatter really hard and later pistons.

One of these days? Oh well...... sr20? who mentioned an sr20? It is a stock '97 ka24! Not looking to beat the hell outta the 240sx, just want to know where I stand against a stock ka24 :y.Yeah, like I said earlier, I'll post up pics when I get her guts all over the road till then, still running great! Going on third week! ---- man, I would be stupid to think I can walk over an sr20 because I've driven one and it is quick!

I wouldn't trust 'em but the reason I'm running it is because it is a temporary filter till I can get a better one. I put on a screen inside as an extra precaution.

Re: My turbo D15Z1 project.

no, find it impossible that you can make more than 3psi on your stock ass engine management... you have no fpr or anything? no your not adding more fuel for the massive increase in air. your afrs have to be in the 20's

vxcoastie 03-31-2006 11:32 PM

You have a very interesting setup. I like it, I'm just like :o over it running well with no fuel management, no retarding timing, nothing.

4g63t_EGMonster 04-01-2006 02:41 AM

Re: My turbo D15Z1 project.

hmm well pretty clean setup. despite the fact you dont have any fuel manag kinda weird. oh and as about the coupling spray some hair spray on the pipe to make that ---- stick. i'm amazed your car didnt run like donkey ---- when your coupling fell off, mine fell off right befor the fmic and i barely made it home with a rough ass idle. keep up the work.

MikeJ-2009 04-01-2006 03:19 AM

Re: My turbo D15Z1 project.

What kind of spool times are you getting? I've got one of those saab T25's here and you're the only other person I've heard of having one. I want to put it on a snowmobile.

And get some damn managemnt.

stillnoturbo 04-01-2006 04:12 AM

Re: My turbo D15Z1 project.

just find a greddy bluebox and use that if you dont feel like chipping your ecu with the VTEC-E ----. Do the vx's use 240cc injectors or something smaller? Id say ditch that head and intake mani and toss on a z6 head and intake or atleast a z6 manifold cause the z1 mani is pitifull. Nice setup though. I remember those days of kits like that. Oh wait those were the only kits I've ever had!! lol. :P

does anyone acctualy know anything about the d15z1 ECU?
maybe it does't have closed\open loop, maybe it regulates the AFR from the WBo2 readings all the time, also at WOT..

Yeah, it's a pile of piss. I hit them with a blowtorch to drop off their ECU plugs to make OBD1 passthru harnesses.

you get my vote for dumbass. :1

for god sake un plug the coolant temp sensor and iat or get an adjustabe fpr!!!!!!!!!!

vxcoastie 04-01-2006 10:39 PM

Re: My turbo D15Z1 project.

You think so? Well I guess my "dumbass" is too stupid to keep this engine running as well as it is now when everyone says it is a POS and will blow when I turbo it and not run any fuel management!! Oh I really do agree with everyone else here when they tell me I better run some kind of fuel management but then someone on here is either too ignorant or "illiterate" that they decide to look at my car, fucken call me a dumbass, and forget to read the parts where I made it clear that I want to see how long it runs with the setup and when it does blow, I will post up picks of aftermath. You heard right! You are either being ignorant or you are just illiterate! Or maybe just trying to be an fucken asswipe! Oh yeah, you ARE also ignorant when you call me a dumbass when you don't even know me. I could call you many things and say you are either this or that but I will not because I don't know you.

To everyone else who are giving positive feedback, thank you very much, I appreciate it.
As an update, car is still running fine!! Still no chance at getting a better video.Trying to make time for it tho. :)
