my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

My project is still in the works, but i'll go ahead and post it up and just update it as i start putting it together. It's just gonna be a cool daily driver, i'm not aspiring for max hp or 10 second passes, just a quick sporty little ride.

First off, the donor:
a 1995 Civic DX Coupe, D15b7 engine, with bolt ons. It has 170k miles on it. (i'm just gonna go ahead and blow the b7 then drop a d16z6 in there)
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/3042/frontgarage6400qs.jpg
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/5905/frontside5yz.jpg
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/3950/back0vt.jpg
and a couple of shots of the engine, i've done a ghetto CAI with a K&N cone filter using a pipe i fabricated and the stock rubber arm, ES motor mount inserts, hypergrounded it with 8ga stereo wire, removed a/c, dynomax turboII exhaust, and advanced timing 3 degrees.
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/552/frontengine8wx.jpg
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/195/engine28fn.jpg

Some more cool stuff i've done:
15" Rota Circuit 8's with 205/50/15 Kumho Ecsta rubber
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/4474/rotas5ob.jpg
Integra gauge cluster w/ amber lighting, JDM amber clock, JDM amber climate control, Pioneer DEH-5500MP head unit (looking for something amber) and yes i know the gauge cluster is an automatic, i couldn't find one for my 5 speed.
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/6981/dash7cl.jpg
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/7163/cluster9pu.jpg
HID lighting
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/2424/hids9ic.jpg
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/4264/hidlight1lj.jpg

Now finally, the go-fast donations:
my custom Eclipse GST turbo kit
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/5397/turbostuff5di.jpg
a 14b Mitsubishi turbocharger
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/7089/turbo6408iy.jpg
an HF manifold
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/6140/hfmani6li.jpg
a 1G DSM BOV.
http://img83.exs.cx/img83/4017/bov22qv.jpg
Fuel management is a STANDALONE (there, happy guys?) ECU system called Uberdata, which is programmed BY YOURSELF (haha not self-programmed).
http://img102.exs.cx/img102/1840/uberdata8od.jpg
Not pictured are a Starion intercooler and 450cc injectors.
I'm also going to be running a 2.5" turbo-back exhaust system with a straight-thru 2.5" muffler. Tuning will be done at A-Z Performance by Nick Patterson, using a DynoJet and a wideband o2 sensor.

Total cost: a little under $500 for the custom turbo kit.

Re:my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

What HID kit did you do? How hard was the install?

SkunT 01-17-2005 09:22 AM

Re:my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

why not keet that 1.5, put a vtec head on it, and have a little mini-me? -thats what I would do. :-\

so the kit is on, or about to be on? -are you going to use an adaptor plate to mate that snail onto the manifold, or just say ---- it and weld it?

one other thing, that climate control is not JDM. JDM climate controls have numbers on them, and in celcius, not a hot/cold like yours shows. just a FYI ;)

good lookin ride though. i like it.

Re:my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

its not "real" HID- its the Sylvania silverstar lights. looks pretty real though.

i don't wanna do a mini-me because of compression issues, i was originally going to, but theres really no way for me to keep it under 11.0:1 compression after the turbo. too much for a daily driver i want to be reliable. kit is not on yet, i'm still waiting on the guy selling me the intercooler and injectors. i should have them by the weekend. i'll be doing an adapter plate, and welding the back where u can't get the 4th bolt in. anybody know a good place to get an adapter plate though, i don't really have any way of drilling 3/4" steel (don't think the dremel can cut it this time lol)

yeah i know about the cluster, its a little inside joke because like 5 people have asked if i'd sell them that "JDM" cluster.

Re:my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

Dont ever say you have HID unless you have HID that is like take the valve cover from a Type R and gluing it to your current one and calling it a B18B. Silverstars are a $20 bulb HID is are about $600 for a decent set. And NO the silverstars are nothing like HID.

Re:my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

did u buy the jdm cluster or just pull it out and swap the bulbs, cause thats what i did. i love the amber lighting

wdwalker 01-17-2005 09:56 AM

Re:my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

yeah dude chill i just don't see justifying paying $600 for something kinda close i can get for $40. its not like i go around bragging "yeah i've got real HIDs" to everyone who asks. i actually made a diffuser panel behind the climate control using this amber see-thru lexan-like stuff. the gauge cluster has amber bulbs.

and your example sux u would be calling it a b18c5 not a b18b. b18b is off integra LS'es.

You can lower the compression by using a thicker head gasket. Cometic and HKS makes them. They are about $250-280 each.

Overall the car looks good. Good luck with your project.

Re:my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

right the cost is the only thing, why pay half of a d16z6 when i could just swap a d16z6 and have extra displacement and not have to worry about compression still being high 10's?

Valid point. Assuming the D16Z6 engine is in very good condition, making the swap would be the best way to go ;).

maybe, but i doubt the engine is gonna last long. plus its pointless for me to put money in an engine i know isn't gonna last long, a d16 is a much better engine for this project.

daily driver since july, compression is still 180 across the board on it dyno'd 200whp, again, its all in the tune

I was going to say that too.. oh well.

Looks good though man, I like the car/setup. Be sure to post up.

well its not a standalone... but yeah i dont guess it is a piggyback is it... what would u consider it?

SpankedYA! 01-17-2005 06:08 PM

Re:my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

It absolutely is a stand alone.

And yes I like the car. ;D

Re:my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

a standalone replaces the ecu with a new one that's programmed to control everything. uberdata just puts a chip in place of the old one to control fuel/ign values.

Re:my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

Nice........never knew you could mod a teg cluster to fit, have to look into this. 8)

So it stands alone and uses no other means off controlling sensors, fuel or spark? Hmm thats a stand alone.

yeah it took about 2 weeks of wiring before i could get all the sensors to work right. can't trust any of those diagrams they give you online, i ended up having to test each wire to a constant 12v source in order to see what it responds to, then just test it until i found what makes it read correctly. pain in the ass. also it doesnt match up perfectly around the edges, i'm working on molding it in with some kind of fiberglass mold but first i gotta BOOST!

um what makes u think there are no other means of controlling sensors, fuel, or spark? all you are doing is modifying the base values the ecu uses for fuel delivery (called open loop btw), you still retain closed loop unless you disable it and the o2 sensor is used to modify those values in order to try to maintain stoich.

why are you retarded:
1) you called uberdata a piggyback
2) you think its self learning (HAHA; i laughed when i read that ----)
3) you have no idea what uberdata is

wdwalker 01-17-2005 10:35 PM

Re:my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

when did i say it was self-learning? it uses closed loop, where the o2 sensor modifies the fuel values in order to maintain stoich. calling it a piggyback was my only mistake.

:chuckles to self:

"Fuel management is a piggyback ECU system called Uberdata, which is self-programmed."

like i said; let us know when you blow that ---- sky high

wdwalker 01-17-2005 10:40 PM

Re:my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

self-programmed meaning you program the values yourself with the software program and burn it to a chip that you use, as opposed to sending it off to hondata and telling them to make u a program. and i dont wanna get into a flame war all i really want for this thread is just critiques and positive reinforcement. if you wanna flame lets take it somewhere else.

fsufan814 01-17-2005 10:45 PM

Re:my new project- "Civic GS-T", 14b+EJ

self programmed implys it learns itself, otherwise it would be "programmable" if you do it yourself ::)
