Default My motor build update

After I couldn't make the NE meet because my LS rods weren't done being bushed I then waited 3 more weeks for them. And they still weren't done. So, unfortunately with one week left to get my car done the stockers had to go back in. I am broke, I couldn't afford basically any good parts for this motor. I bought all new seals, bearings, and gaskets and had nothing left to make the motor hold more boost. Except for Vitara pistons which, people are dubious about anyway. Well, I finally got the motor all back together and today spent 4 hours trying to figure out why it wouldn't crank. Turned out that my tranny ground wasn't good enough. Cranked right over after that and started up real easy. Oil pressure went up to 75, which seems good if it isn't too high. Then my oil feed line started shooting oil onto the ground. Stealth is hooking me up with an oil line overnighted but looks like I can't get the car on the road til monday. Sorry for the long read anyway, here are some crappy teaser pics.

Wow... those ARE some crappy pics.

But, congrats on getting it together. How much boost are you going to run? I wonder how much you can push with the stock rods and vitara pistons because of the lower CR...

How much did it cost you for all of the gaskets and bearings that you replaced?

Me too. I am shooting for low to mid 200's. If I added everything together, including the clutch, it was probably $600 or so... And it would've been a decent motor with Ls rods but this will have to do.

So I take the car out today and start to break in the rings. Come back after like 15 minutes and my tranny locks up in the parking lot, fluid starts draining itself out past the flywheel. Took it out and it has a chunk missing in the differential. I wasn't even ripping on it. Another day and another tranny before my car is done. I'll swap another tranny in tommorow and we'll see what happens. nothing but bad luck...

That sucks man... so what happened with your tranny?

I hate it when a few things happen to my car one right after the other. I don't mind spending money on my car, but when it's stupid ---- I get pissed...

Good luck getting the tranny situation figured out!

I don't know, it created a new hole and bled itself dry. I will be putting in a DX tranny tommorow. Classes end this week and I have to drive this rig home, it has to be done. No more problems

Damn Alex, glad you got it up and running again, but you sure did run into a bad luck streak along the way. Tell thos SOB's to press your pistons into those LS rods. You've been waiting a while for them

Update, got that DX tranny in. I had to pull it in using the tranny bolts Because after spending 3 hours on my back rocking the thing it just wouldn't go in. It seems to be shifting alright for the time being. Here are some more pics. I swear my camera used to not suck this much.

As for the motor. It's noisy. At first I thought it was valvetrain noise but after remembering my piston clearances (.004) I think I might have some piston slap. Oh well. It's a pretty weak motor now anyway since my LS rods never got done. Wideband tuning in a couple days after I break in the rings, we'll see how she pulls at 10 psi. I also decided my DSM SMIC sucks. After like a 15 minute drive today my intake pipe was relatively warm, which, I don't like since it's only like 65 out. So.. next mod is definitely a front mount, anyway. Motor is as follows:

Stock rods
Vitaras
New seals, gaskets, bearings
DX tranny
48/60 T3
DSM side mount
DSM 450's
