Default My homemade IC idea...will it work?

I went to a junk yard and found a turbo diesel Benz with an oil cooler with the following measurements: 2 inches thick, 41/4 inches tall and 20 inches long/wide. I was thinking about modifying the end tanks and weld 2 inches inlet and outlet pipes. Is this a good idea for an IC? How much psi or HP do you think it will handle? I think it would be better than my DSM side mount.

All comments or suggestions welcome.

I thought it would since the design is like any other intercooler. What do you think will restrict the flow?

If your good enough to weld an oil cooler/intercooler than you could make enough money VERY quickly to just buy a real IC core and still do your custom end tank.

Bad idea I think.

But I bet it'd make a great oil coller, hehe.

I am going to give it a try. One of the partners at the junk yard said I should decide on the price. I'll give him about $20.00. I am going to get it this weekend.

Thanks for the warning. I will do some flow testing before any installation.

Sounds like a bitchin' oil cooler for cooling oil. Does it have threaded ends for the inlet/outlet? Maybe I need to hook up with one of those for oil cooling purposes, I already have the largest transmission cooler I could find.

I'm going to agree with other people on this one, if you have the talent, go buy your own core and go that custom route. But hey, offer the guy $10 and see what you can do to this thing.

Let us know how well it works for you, a writeup would be nice.

Yes, it has threaded ends for both inlet and outlet.
