My Del Sol Now with Holset bitcheS!!!

I've been lurking around here for a while so I figure I would finally post my build. It is a 95 Del Sol with a DOHC ZC in it. HMT manifold, welded with a HF tig. DSM 450s, Ching Chong Wastegate and SSQV Blow off Valve, 2 1/2 down pipe, Saab T3 .42 .48 turbo, DSM sidemount intercooler.

Well, I got the DelSol on the dyno today. 154whp with 148 ft-lbs of torque before the clutch started slipping. :p Runs pretty good now but I can't wait to get a new clutch in it. The tuner figures it should hit 170whp no problem once the clutch is fixed.

Install the charge pipe and your HP will rise a bit ;)

The other car is badass! Future project on delsol or only want a new clutch?

Whats your fuel mangement?

I had a del sol but sold it.

TomBones 03-20-2008 12:34 AM

Re: My del sol

Still more plans for the Del Sol, but for now, new clutch. Have to get the power to the ground. The Charge pipe is on there now O0 Just dont have any pics of that right now. :8 It was tuned with Crome by Turbo Tech in Tacoma.

sweet , is that a sr20dett in the other car???thats ------- bad ass!!

Re: My del sol

Yup, he put down 200hp at 7lbs. His AR get climbing from 12 -->15.5 16 from 5krpms and up. Looks like his fuel pressure kept dropping off.

nice setup but ditch the sidemount and get a fmic and up the boost

seerex 03-20-2008 11:02 PM

Re: My del sol

How much boost are you runing?

TomBones 03-20-2008 11:07 PM

Re: My del sol

10psi

Oscar 03-20-2008 11:31 PM

Re: My del sol

Wow. There is definitely some clutch slippage going on there. Your boost creeps down to 5psi after 5k.

Sweet setup. You should try a slightly bigger turbo on that. :y

TomBones 03-20-2008 11:37 PM

Re: My del sol

Bigger turbo definatlly a plan. I think the boost is falling off because it is run off the compressor housing. I am going to move it up to the intake manifold and see if that helps. I know leed did that on my friends 4 door who has the same turbo and was seeing the same issue, and it made a big difference. You can also see the clutch slip on the dyno sheet, it goes to 150 and then just stays flat from 5k rpms to the end.

TomBones 03-21-2008 12:54 AM

Re: My del sol

Got a vid of it on the dyno too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ml89_qEuhjk You can see my awesome exhaust leak on my dump tube at the end :8

Oscar 03-21-2008 12:56 AM

Re: My del sol

Well, your clutch slipping doesn't help. If there's no load, no boost will be built.

xternal 03-21-2008 04:23 AM

Re: My del sol

Yeah stock cluthces + boost = ownage. Bigger turbo more boost , animal response :y

----, not even 1 week, I go out to my car today cause I hear a faint noise, take a look at my oil pressure. ------- 15 PSI AT IDLE. God dammit. Time to rip this fucker out and rebuild the bottom end now. Good thing I have another crank handy. Hope the rods are fine. >:( Looks like I will be getting that clutch in soon now too.

as long as it goes up with a little more rpm i would say its fine...my old b16 would sit at about 10 at idle iirc

---- TURBO TECHNOLOGY!!!

Just had to get that out of the way. This fucker let go about 2 weeks after the tune. What ever, just calls for a better build and a tune from someone else or myself. Here's where it stands now. Ordered a set of Supertech pistons, TT Rods, HKS head gasket, orange chicken front mount. Still need to get a set of ARP head studs and a walbro 255. Block just went to the machine shop. Getting ready to build me a monster. :)

Carnage pics!

so you send your block to the machine shop, and leave your pistons at home?

Negative. Pistons are there with the block. :S Give me a little credit.

wow, give me part# of combo pistons/rods for ZC DOHC !

how much did you pay for them?

Welcome to poorly reversed engineered tuning programs with erratic ignition timing control, combined with an engine that is timing sensitive to begin with.

Step up to the plate. EcTune and Neptune are your friends. :y

Re: My Del Sol Carnage PICS!

The pistons are Supertech P4-HD755-N3. They are -3cc 10:1 pistons for a d16z6.

Re: My Del Sol Carnage PICS!

Been super busy finishing some other projects but I am finally getting back to this. Well, block is back and looks pretty good. Started working on the oil setup. Started out by drilling out the oil pressure sensor hole on the back of the block and tapping it out for 1/4 NPT. I then put a 1/4 NPT to -6AN adapter and ran some braided line (temporary of course until it is in the car)

Next I made an oil distrabution block. It has a -6 inlet to feed it and a -3 out of the right for oil supply to the turbo. Then on the bottom of the block I have drilled and tapped two holes for the oil pressure sensor and an oil pressure gauge. This should help to clean up the usual mess of oil lines on the back of the block.
