what's the pocket look like that the piston is supposed to slide into?

If you took the spring out and it still opens that far without an obvious fuckup in the way then I'd guess it's all it's supposed to?

 

looks like its apart in the pic...why? it should seal all the way down, is that as far as the piston goes down it should seat aginst the rubber to keep it from leaking check it for mars on the piston and "cylinder"
