Default My build, Q's, and NWS

Hi! Just thought I should share my build and say thanks for saving me from HT Didnt know crap about turbo systems until I found a link to this site along with the info to build one for myself, so that was definately a good find .

Anyway, here's the eyecandy:

Precision fmic
Homemade mani, charge pipes and dp
eGay bov, clamps and couplers

I was tuned with crome free before, but I think I might have had some bad tank of gas or something, cause he had to pull way more timing than other maps I have seen. Here's the result, at 11ish psi:

So I went to the circuit track, and my manifold cracked... Not in the welds, but the pipe itself. I braced it, but it cracked again...

I bought eCtune (had a wb from before), made myself some detcans, and put a little timing back in the map. Havent done any tuning before, but I dont think its detonating, I guess time will tell At least my manifold has stopped cracking now... Here's a couple of vids at the track, its kinda long and boring, and I had some overheating issues, so I dont know how interesting it is though...

I have some vitara's and some of the I-beam rods on the way, that I was planning to put in after I melt a piston or the snow arrives. A tial ext wg is going on too, and maybe an obx lsd. Now for the questions... Since I usually go to the circuit track or autoslalom/superstage for some weekend fun, spool time is important to me. I have searched a lot, and tried to learn how to read flow maps, but to be honest it kinda confuses me, and I cant find much info about this, except from big hybrid turbo's that spools around 5K. A bb turbo would probably work (at least thats what people around here tells me), but I really dont feel like paying that much for just a turbo... Ballpark figures I'm looking for is 250 whp, and at least 10psi@4Krpm . Sorry for the newbie'ish question, but what kind of turbo would be suitable?

Edit:
And ---- photobucket... Is there another place to host pictures?

if you are wanting to learn to read flow charts then just search on here there is a sticky about it
as for making boost fast i have a question?
why is it that your d16 is making peak power at 7200rpm? i mean i turbo'd a stock d15 no vtec crx and it made peak power at 7600rpm and it really didn't drop off until about 9100rpm
is it that maby you need a cam? i only say this because if you are making full power at 7200rpm that would mean if you shift at 7400rpm then the next gear would drop you to about 3500-4000rpm give or take some revs, but if you were shifting at say 9500rpm (if you made power up there ofcourse) then the next gear would bring the revs to about 6800-7000rpm
witch unless you have a huge turbo i have no reason to believe would make 11psi+

Yes, I have read the sticky about it, and I think I know how to read them. But then when I go look for flow charts, I find one that says "t3 60 trim", and just "60-1 compressor trim". How am I supposed to know what turbo that is, what housings, what exhaust a/r... Just thought it would be good to see some real life experience from someone who knew what turbo they were running...

What you are saying about building the head makes sence. I dont know how reliable it would be, though? I think running at those rpm's constantly for 20 minutes would wear things out faster that just shifting at the stock rev limit? IDK, though. Maybe I should try it

Yes, you are right. I have it in there, but it didnt show in any of the pictures. Here's my downpipe after I heatwrapped it:

Throw about 4 more steel bands on that. One lil bit of contact and that will come unraveled and possibly wrap around a axle and cause a wreck. I got 6 "whole pack" on mine

pffff

i got one wire (thats right not even a proper band ) holding all the wrap on my manifold.
1/2 a pack cut in to at least 5. over 6 months, with the manifold removed and installed couple times.

still tighter then a nuns ----

Nice vids, looks like you were schooling everyone.

What is the benefit of the flex-pipe?

Less stress on the manifold?

Haha, that was how it looked like before I put it on. Didnt take long before I touched the ground. Now I have a clamps and steel zipties everywhere to keep the pieces of wrap in place.

There were quite a few cars on the track that day that were way faster than me, but they werent on the track at the same time as me. A noob in a 190 whp civic on melting street tires isnt that fast. Its good fun, though

So, I followed a tutorial for how to read flow maps and made this from a map I found at blaast...

Its a T4E turbo, 46 trim and "0.50 to 0.70 a/r (configuration and A/R may vary depending on inventory)". I also can choose a .48 or .63 a/r turbine housing. Is there any way to tell how fast this ting will spool?
