more d15b7 turbo questions

*ok since the search has not been working for me for 3 days now, i am forced to start a thread*

anyways, thinkin about doin a hmt kit on my brothers 163k mile d15b7. looking to keep it reliable and safe, probably around 150whp-ish. of course, the motor is and will remain all stock. what are the weak points? rods im sure, so where do they max out around? anything else i should be concerned/informed about?

i wish the search was working bc i know all this has been covered before. and dont think im a bitchassnoob bc im not, i just dont know much about these pos b7's. O0

Re: more d15b7 turbo questions

rods on those things are weak as balls..... they look like they were made for a weed wacker...

but why bother asking, just boost it, B7 bottom ends are a dime a dozen and you can get them for free..hell i just gave one away...

Re: more d15b7 turbo questions

how much hp do these tend to take a ---- on?

*EDIT*
and the reason for not "just boosting it" is bc he is 16. he doesnt have much money. and he doesnt have another car. not to mention its 25 degrees here and i really dont feel like doing over night motor swaps in this weather;)

Re: more d15b7 turbo questions

no money equals home depot/junkyard ghetto turbo set ups.....

cold weather equals more time to get parts as you can afford each one....

I have seen b7's making 200whp.... and holding together.... but in my eyes they start getting sketchy after that

Re: more d15b7 turbo questions

well then, running 8psi on a gt17 or a 14b and wanting 150-160whp i should be ok

Re: more d15b7 turbo questions

14b is the perfect "starter kit" for a d15. Just limit yourself to 6 or 8 psi max, as those turbo's are capable of alot more. IMHO best bang for the buck, and cheaper than hell to build these days.

Re: more d15b7 turbo questions

cool, thanks. so far this looks to be the potential setup upon finding the right prices on items:

14b
1g dsm bov
1g dsm smic
hf mani
dsm 450s
fmu
custom oil lines

Re: more d15b7 turbo questions

why buy an FMU.... when you can tune with uberdata or crome for free.... just buy a chip and get a friend to burn it for you

Re: more d15b7 turbo questions

for the sake of saving money.... run a basemap on it.... its probably just as good as a FMU

93hatchy 01-24-2007 09:53 PM

Re: more d15b7 turbo questions

idk how to do that either.....i guess we'll see

Re: more d15b7 turbo questions

read in the turbo section b7 is like a any usdm d15b block plenty of examples over there

tuning is key and there is not one # that works

simple trial and error is really the way this stuff works

Re: more d15b7 turbo questions

I've been running mine most of the summer on 10psi with no problems, I rape it daily, I have a long drive to school and usually go through a 5th gear ripper or two a day, that thing seriously should have died along time ago. Besides the wideband I put my whole setup together for $550 plus the wideband and chip burner. Thats including my Homemade 2.5 full exhaust. Just go for it but do your research first. Tuning is pretty simple especially for a non V-tAk. If you send me a chip i'll burn my map on it and send it back to you. I'm using 450's, and a teo4h.

Re: more d15b7 turbo questions

No havent dyno'd it or ran it at the track, paying to dyno this setup would just be a joke, and I dont want to embarass myself at the track with it, its not bad but i'd get a lot of ---- for my gay bodykit. hopefully this spring I will have my z6 build in there, then I'll take it to the track.

i've seen a dyno of 214whp safely. i think he was running about 14-16psi. the guy has his own dyno and shop though so he knows what he is doing. some of you guys may have heard of zerodaze.

damn, on a b7? do youknow what turbo he was using? I just got one of those freescale map sensors so I'm going to crank up the boost a lil bit. what do you mean by "safely"? I've seen most of them go right around 215-230 whp.

Re: more d15b7 turbo questions
