Default misc. turbo questions......?

i got some silly questions about building a turbo.. (please forgive my n00bin3ss)... my platform right now is a 99 gsr... intake/2.25" 4-1 SS DC header/2.25" custom crush bent piping/ 2.25" in/out carsound cat/and a comptech muffler..

now i plan on running a
-t3 63/60 (i believe those are the numbers) turbo from a t-bird
-440 or 390 injectors (whatever i can get my hands on)
-safc
-ssautocrap manifold & downpipe kit ($199 on egay) if i can find someone in socal to weld the reinforcement braces for me
-starion intercooler
-some loud bov (recommend me one)
-walbro 255 or walbro 255 high pressure pump
-custom piping and oil lines
-boost gauge, probably run the apexi turbo timer since it's a TT and an a/f meter, maybe oil pressure gauge?

goal is to be running 10psi MAX SAFELY on my daily driver

now... do i need to upgrade my radiator?
should i take my high pressure radiator cap off and replace it with the stock one when i'm turbo'd?

when should i be using the walbro 255 high pressure fuel pump vs. the regular walbro 255 fuel pump

would i need an external wastegate with the t3 turbo?

I just love recommending this link:

Why not buy Abaz's twin turbo setup?

it is a nice turbo setup but i wanted something that is ac compatible and i'm not sure if TT setup is any different from single turbo setup.. TT is unfamiliar territory

btw: that website you directed me to.. i was reading about the intercoolers... there is always something to be sacraficed when using an intercooler? (ie, windshield wiper fluid, half length radiator?)

i just read the whole webpage you sent me... wow, that was informative
thanks

Get a new exhaust, too, for sure. The turbo timer is pretty useless. The a/f gauge is a shot in the dark, and isn't acurate for ----. The intercooler will work, you don't really have to give up anything except hack the ---- out of your bumper to make it fit.

Oh, and a nice feature of the turbo timers that not too many people realize is that when you set your timer, lock your doors/arm your alarm, after the timer shuts off it automatically unlocks your doors

well i thought i could do a double wammie because of the turbo timer + the a/f gauge... since you feel i don't need either, my alarm already has an exisiting turbo timer

In defense to the twin turbo setup.. the big advantage you get is spool time. Those are small turbos used in ford probes and subaros and they spool nice and quick. If you have two of them working for you then you're going to hit full boost in nothing flat

The twin setup isnt for everyone, especially a newbie that has a GSR. Obviously this guy is probably going to want to keep his AC and Powersteering. My kit wont fit with AC or PS. Maybe PS, but I doubt it, and it hasnt been tested to fit in the DC2 chasis, EG/EK would have no problem and a EF like my car was a complete bitch to get it to fit.

Thanks for the recommendation, but I'd hate to have someone buy it that didnt know wtf to do with it. I'd have to include a sawzall with the kit

Anyhow, onto your questions.

-t3 63/60 (i believe those are the numbers) turbo from a t-bird
Excellent turbo, its going to spool fast on a B18c, But I think you will really like it, its pretty limited on the top end, especially on a gsr, max whp will probably be around 280ish (effiecently).

-440 or 390 injectors (whatever i can get my hands on)
Gotta get some Resistors on a Resistor box, since your injectors in your car are saturated and dsm injectors are Hold and peak. There are some good wirning write ups, Its real easy to do.

-ssautocrap manifold & downpipe kit
I'd probably pass on this one, The manifolds are pretty shitty unless you brace the crap out of it. The runners are really small and the collector looks like something in the bottom of a blender. I'd almost vote go Log manifold, but I really hate logs. Shitbird might have some AC/PS compadible manifold, check into his website. www.rank1racing.com The downpipe is going to have to be custom, either a 2.5 or 3.0in pipe will be just fine.

-starion intercooler
Great intercoolers for Junkyard builds, (if you can find one for a decent price) I wouldnt pay more than 125 for one of these. Why? because once you buy it your going to have to modify the end tanks so they outlets exit on the end. You may want to look into getting a Johnnyracecar.com intercooler they are cheap and might fit your car better than a starion, plus you wouldnt have to modify it.

Heres a Starion thats been modified vs a Tyrus 6in intercooler.

-some loud bov
Hands down TurboXS's RFL or a RFL rip off, we all know what RFL means they are the noisiest bov's.

-walbro 255 or walbro 255 high pressure pump
Never heard of the "high pressure version" just get the regular one, good for 400whp.

custom piping and oil lines
Yup, I'd go with --------------------------- oil lines, the kit is really nice, it comes with a tunertoyz fitting and just fits perfect. No ------- around, no going to the hardware store etc. 75 bucks shipped is the cheapest stainless steel line kit around.

-boost gauge, probably run the apexi turbo timer since it's a TT and an a/f meter, maybe oil pressure gauge?
You can run as many gauges as you want, I personally run the stock gauges with a big *** boost gauge.

goal is to be running 10psi MAX SAFELY on my daily driver
This is very possible, however as soon as this thing is boosted you need to go to the dyno and get it tuned, or find someone who has a wideband o2 setup and do some street tuning. You can crack those ring lands so fast you wont beleive it. So when you get everything done, just make sure you get it tuned, its by far the MOST important part of the entire setup.

now... do i need to upgrade my radiator?
should i take my high pressure radiator cap off and replace it with the stock one when i'm turbo'd?
No, and No

when should i be using the walbro 255 high pressure fuel pump vs. the regular walbro 255 fuel pump
When ever you plan on running 10psi I would plan on getting that pump installed. You can go ahead and put it in before the install if you want, it wont hurt anything to run the car NA with a big pump like that. Thats why we have pressure regulators and return lines

would i need an external wastegate with the t3 turbo?
This is up to you, I personally recommend using a external gate. But a internal one will work fine for your goals.

Think I answered everything eh?

wow jeff... thanks for answering EVERYTHING... i think i'm going to pick up a starion intercooler soon.. how's $100 sound picked up with endtanks already modified?

would you get on it? i can't really tell the condition by the pic... but he said "it's in good condition" but of course, this is someone else's judgement.

If thats what you want to get go for it. Some people like to have a look of having a huge *** intercooler in the front of their bumper, and thats why alot of people get the johnnyracecar ic's. That intercooler for a 100 bucks is a decent deal and looks like its ok from the pic.
