mini me turbo
i used a d16y8 head on my stock d16a6 bottom block, turbo'd it, and was having trouble with detonation. i went and installed a msd fuel pump, and still had the problem. i wasnt able to boost past 2.5 psi, and couldnt floor it. tried to retard the timing, turn up the fuel pressure, and that didnt help either. i ended up advancing the timing, and now able to boost up to around 5.5 psi, but still having trouble flooring it. does this make sense to anyone? any suggestions on tuning?

the vtec head bumps comp to 10/1 ish. Then adding boost on top of that with no engine management. There isn't one smart thing about that. A mini setup requires good tuning and a turbo definately needs management of some kind. Read FAQ. Turning your fuel pressure up too much can make injectors stick open. Your setup is the equivalent of playing russian roulet with a bullet in every chamber.
I'd disconnect those charge pipes and run a regular filter till you get some management, either that, or you'll be buying a new motor really soon.

ya ithink using the y8 head is gona give you about 11 something compression. im using the z6 head and my compression is 10.1. but im using the afc with 91 octane and 450cc injecotrs and i can boost 89lbs with no problem. i think your compression is the problem. get better management or use some octane booster that should be a temporary fix.
yeah, I'm working on turboin the mini in my rex, compresion isn't the problem, it's the lack of fuel management. Your ecu can only compensate for so much extra air in the engine. The most boost you'll safely get w/o afc is 3-4 psi, at most. Safc Vafc are good investments if you want to turn up the psi. y8 head does raise comp a little more then z6. You should at least upgrade to dsm 450 injectors. And an a/f ratio gauge is definately a requirement. I'm sure your runnin super lean.
