So Sunday my buddy and I decided we were going to take my cams out and modify the end of the intake cam by removing the pulley that runs ps (on the cars that the cams came out of). On the 2.3 H.O. motors, the intake cam drives the power steering pump via pulley. On my car, the power steering pump is driven by a hex drive adaptor that is pressed into the end of the intake cam. The project was to remove the cam, remove the pulley, drill for the adaptor and press in the adaptor so that I could finally have power steering. Taking the cam towers off and timing cover, I started to get a bit worried as I saw a little milkyness, but thought it just might be condensation buildup as I havn't driven the car in at least 6 months. The new motor has no more than 500 miles on it, and I really don't rip on it (even when I did drive it months ago). So obviously we took the head off and I drained the oil. It doesn't look like the hg blew in any way, but I'll let the pics speak for themself. I really hope I caught this soon enough. The car ran fine when I pulled it into the garage beforehand. Its a cometic .074 gasket with arp studs all torqued to proper spec. Also, I am concerned about the #4 cylinder and how clean the head of the piston is as compared to the rest. Also, take a look at the valves/plug as they compare to the rest. Any educated suggestions would be appreciated. If you don't have anything to contribute, please go somewhere else. Thanks

Forgot to mention that. I already ordered a new oem felpro I'm gonna throw on. I see all you honda guys running stock hg's so it'll be straight. I'm just trying to pinpoint the problem so It doesn't happen again

ive used fail-pro before those gaskets SUCK from my experience on hondas not sure how well they hold up on the cavi but good luck.

I blew a cometic on my supra once. Arp's and all.

Mirror finish on the head, and glass on the block is needed in my experience. Hondas seem to be the exception to the rule but I digress.

Check for cyl head warpage straight edge and feeler gauges are adequate, and go from there.

Since your going to a fail-pro I doubt you will pop the HG from the same point, but anything can happen.

Looks like a headgasket leaking coolant in that cyl. Check for bearing material if the oil's lubrication was at all compromised, that chocolate milk will eat some bearings up.

Yea many people have had problems with cometics leaking internally/externaly. Ive heard of using some kind of spray sealer between the layers helps, but youd prolly be better off just using an oem. Clean that ---- up and throw one on and check everything out, and youll prolly be golden.

You might want to pull the valvecover off after 100 miles or so and recheck the torque on those bolts, unless they're tty? and maybe think about having the injectors balanced. You'd be surpised at how different the flow rates can be between them.
