----, I go to do my monthly hotmail check mainly to sift through the crap, and here I notice 'turbo4life' pm'd me that whole dick-up-my-*** unintelligible post. And I'm noticing most flamers still can't do ---- for research: Before the fmic got a nissan's tail pipe pushed through it, my stock, unknown milage d16z6 ran ------- perfect with a t3/t04b at 10psi. No detonation, no fuel smell (as in 14:1 afr's cruising, 12:1 boost), idled BETTER than most stock civics (actually the most pleasurable part of the car, besides wheel-screeching torque) - with 780cc injectors and a tuned-by-me map, starting from my own basemap. Nobody but *me* touched that car, the turbo setup, or the tune. I was limited to 10psi because I'd have headlift at 11+ (reused HG & bolts), and didn't like steam-cleaning the engine bay that way. It also spooled that t3/t04 up to 10psi by 4000rpm. In other words, don't ------- say I can't tune. I took a dying engine, reused many 'old' components, and it worked better than most setups here or on hater-tech. I'm far beyond many of the nig-nog pocket racers who can't lay a bead if they had a robotic tig with a 'start welding' button. Rant not indended to those who can weld, tune, fab, or think outside the box; please ignore this in that case.

Anyways, as I was typing the first post, I was already 100% sure I'd go with DSM 450s. I have 2 sets as it is, one for free, one for $20 (only bill I had in my wallet). And btw I've tuned with those too, the most fun was a b18b1 with 404's that maxed them out with 12psi, fed by a gsr fuel pump. I'm just in awe of how some people see "FMU" and think I'm going to base a ------- career around one... :1

btw turbo4life, your reponses are missing the same thing your mom missed after the 10th man she cheated with - periods. Every forum needs a village idiot though, so I'm kinda glad her whoring produced you.

D-series don't lift heads; they have great headgaskets with plenty of sealing surface and the OEM headbolts are overbuilt from the factory like most Honduh engines. You vibrated sleeves with detonation @ 11+ psi because you can't tune.

There needs to be a big correction in regards to FMUs, something I was recently corrected on. FMU's do not change the duty cycle. They simply increase flow via higher pressure. This means if you run the stock ECU with a 12:1 FMU, the duty cycle will be the same at .1psi as it would be at 20psi. The injectors will be open the exact same amount of time(which is what DC is calculated by) but the amount of fuel delivered will be dramatically different due to the increase in flow. Also you cannot run over 100% DC for the reasons stated by MadMax.

Duty cycle may stay the same, but the injector opens slower as fuel pressure goes up.

So you're saying they're so great they won't lift even when: you pop the head back on, reuse the OEM HG w/light mist of copper spray, reuse the OEM headbolts lubed with 10w30, and surpass the MAP sensor range that Crome can adjust timing to? I heard no detonation, my DET CAN gave me nothing, and I was around 1deg/psi. Boosting the octane to ~96 w/toluene and less timing would do jack for the headlift. When you have 1 block being built, the spare doesn't get ARPs or even a $30 HG if not needed. It also had a faultering oil pump (~1-5psi below 1500rpm), another reason for reusing certain items.

My gripe is that people are saying I can't tune simply because I'm asking about other's FMU experiences. If people were this close-minded normally, you not only wouldn't see any boosted SOHC's, but zero boosted hondas. All it does is amuse me that poeple have such an ingrained automatic response to a 3 letter word, regarless of how it's used.

Ignorance and reusing headgaskets does not = head lift. Unless a couple of your head bolts were noticably stretched or visibly corroded D-series can not lift heads. I could have fixed your car with $35 in used parts and turned it from a **** pile into a local legend. Nig nogs do not make excuses for their failures, they use more zip ties and get the job done.

This thread has totally deviated from the original subject.

I say go with the FMU and call it a day, then go back to honda-tech since they like you better than we do.

Why slower? Wouldn't more force on the injector cause them to open faster but close slower/more inconsistently?
