Default Max power for a b18b

I have tried using the search button on here, but for some reason I keep getting just a white screen? Anyhow, I was wondering what the max horespower was on a stock b18b turbo? I have heard a lot of conflicting things. I have heard that the b series motors can handle up to 300 whp and be reliable as long as the tuning is good and you don't make the engine do what it wasn't desinged to do (i.e not reving past 6800 on an LS). Then I've also heard the 265-275 was the limit on where you want be while still staying safe. I don't really want to have to rebuild the motor right now, and I'm not wanting insane horsepower right now, so I was going to just do the ls/vtec and a couple of other things to get me to the 300whp and then just leave it alone. Others have told me to just save my money and just rebuild the motor then crank the boost. That is probably the best thing to do, but it's also triple the amount of money as a ls/vtec converison. What do you guys think?

ls vtack is

the money you use on that could get you 300hp reliably on an ls......
a stock block good tune will give you 300hp....its even easier if youuse a slightly bigger turbo....lag isnt abad thing

but for 800$ you could do a set of eagle H beam rods, and forged pistons....and you would be set...the stock sleves are fine for 300hp,

yeah, I know I could buy those, and I even found a deal with rods, pistons and sleeves for about 1,100.00 or around there, but it's the downtime on the motor and cost of the install that will get me. If I could buy everything I needed and have it installed for 1.5k to 2k, and have it back in a week or two, I would go that route. This is my dd so I can't be out of a car for that long.

300 can be had on an LS with very good tuning, and it'll last. But at that level of power, things will wear out fast and could eventually break. You can only have 2 choices out of 3 options...Cheap, reliable, or fast. You really can't have all 3. But if all you want is the 275-280hp range, it can be had pretty reliably. It's all in the tune...it can make or break your build.

yeah, your deffinatly right. I'm not really trying to go cheap, but get the most bang for the buck. Does that number hold true for all b series, or just LSs? I would like to be at 300 if need be, but 275 isn't all that bad. The car probably won't see that much power under daily driving anyway, I just like knowing if I want it, it's there.

^^Yup.

I'm trying to get mine in the ballpark of 260-275whp on a stock LS, but don't know if my turbo will get me there. Am confident in my tuner though. I hope I can finally get it done by this summer. I've been saying that for years, and look where I'm at still.

LOL. It looks and seems to me, that LS motors are really the motor with the best bang for the buck when it comes to turbo Stock motors.

1. Because they are cheap. B16's, B18's are way more expensive. You blow your LS, you can buy another block for like 200-500 bucks. Slap your current head on, and be boosted again in a day or 2.
2. They can handle a good amount of power with a good tune.
3. They create a good amount of torque. While you might get more power with less psi out of a motor with a better flowing head or V-tec whatever, If both motors have the same amount of hp, the LS motor will usually always have more torque.

Exactly. LS's will make tire-shredding torque with very little boost, and make the DD scene very fun indeed. I've done both ls's and b16a's with turbos, and by far I'd say I prefer the LS over the b16 for daily driven status. The torque on the highway is a great plus too. Just get a properly sized turbo matched to what you want to run...i.e. the smallest turbo for the goal, and you'll fall in love. A turbo that's too big will leave you like a pornstar...great on the top, but will leave you waiting for the fast ride.

I've got a turbonetics t3/t4 right now, and I think I'm happy with it. The only thing that kind of sucks is that I don't hit full boost untill 4k right now. That could be for a couple of different things though like still having a stock exhaust. Gonna try to have that changed in a week or two. Gonna have a 2.5 inch downpipe, (at least I think it's 2.5, it's whatever diameter comes with the turbonetics kit.) leading to a 3 inch exhaust. I'm hoping this will lower my spool time. Also, I think I may have a slight exhaust leak, but I'm not sure. I'm hoping that my tuner can make 250 whp at least off of that at 10 psi. I'm gonn buy a 2 bar map sensor and try to push 12-13 psi in the future.
