making BOV sound cooler

is there any kind of fitting that i can use to back my BOV sound cooler, its a 2nd gen eclipse BOV, it sounds all right but i want it to have more of a whissling sound. any ideas?

Re:making BOV sound cooler

what do you mean sound cooler?

aron2063 05-29-2003 12:59 PM

Re:making BOV sound cooler

well the 2nd gen eclipse BOV was kinda made to be quiet i think, just like all production turbo cars, they make ever thing nice a quiet, i can still hear it and everything, i was just wondering if someone has tried putting a trumpet thing on at all.

How about sticking one of those little kids whistle things in it. I forget what they are called but its a tube and when you blow it the inside spins really fast and makes this high pitch squeel. I know you remember them.. put like two or three in the outlet.. That would sound cool.

Re:making BOV sound cooler

My OEM Bosch BOV is much louder than any of the aftermarket BOVs I've heard... I forget the one Steven runs, but Atlee has the pigeon-raper squeaking Greddy Type-S POS BOV *puke*. You can barely hear the thing, it quacks for like half a second.

I made a fiberglass trumpet on my plastic bosch bov, the noise is quite a bit louder now.

Re:making BOV sound cooler

re route it back to the turbo inlet???? instead of venting it to the atmosphere??

and yes it sounded a whole lot louder with the alarm horn at only 6psi... so im guessing at 8 it should be even louder

Ima have to try out that alarm trumphet idea.. pretty cool IMO. I may try a metal trumphet to make it even a little more so :)

Or just rig it to your horn, so everytime it psssh's your horn will honk. Can't get any louder than that. :P

that 2g BOV is WORTHLESS. it's a plastic piece of ---- and it leaks boost. go out and buy a BOV worth something...because i've seen those things leak AT IDLE on more than a couple 2g DSM's....

Re:making BOV sound cooler

yeah 2g look very dainty...

1g's are the ----.

well, considering there's full vaccuum sent to it at idle, it seems quite normal that it would be slightly open. so tell me, just how much boost are you planning on running at idle? if you know how to set them up, they can be good to over 20psi with no leaks.. i'll have to find the post on the other board about it...

i don't believe you understand what you are making fun of. he means that the bov leaks because of cheap design and manufacture.

Re:making BOV sound cooler

get a bov with release holes souronding it, going in a ring around the bov those are the loudest.

aron2063 05-30-2003 03:43 PM

Re:making BOV sound cooler

i had an turbo xs one and it had the holes all the way around and it sounded like air leaking out, which is what a BOV is doing but it just doesnt sound like a regular BOV, i guess that sounds stupid, but anyone who has heard one of those and the 2nd gen one will know what im talking about, i still have the old one but i like the 2nd gen exlipse one alot better, i think im gonna but the greddy type s though

aron2063 05-30-2003 04:13 PM

Re:making BOV sound cooler

oh yeah and that ------- t25 on my friends eclipse pulls like a mofo all the way up to 7000 rpm, he reaches full boost at like 3500rpm and it stays at 15 all the up to 6800 and then it goes to about 15.5 PSI - 16 PSI, that thing halls ass, and he doesnt even have a boost controller it just naturally went from 12PSI to 16PSI after he bought the HKS SSQV BOV, and that sun of a bitch can get to 10PSI standing still just roaring the engine, damn those dsm's damn them to hell. that car doesnt need to be under a load at all.

no boost at idle. the ---- shouldnt be open because at idle the car is under vacuum. the design is ---- and those BOV's are crap. it's not worth more than $5.

aron2063 05-30-2003 06:29 PM

Re:making BOV sound cooler

well if my blowoff vavle is only worth $5 then i got a hello a deal mo fo. i paid nothin ......... hahahahahaaaaaaaaaahaahhaha

XDEep 05-30-2003 06:33 PM

Re:making BOV sound cooler

haha vroooom honk. vroom vroom HONK HONK.

i got 3 used bosch plastic bov's from these le barons i think. i heard the 2g bov's and such only leak past 10psi or so, which is usually what those dsm guys complain about. so 5-8psi should be ok. if not im getting a 1g anyways. those things are in pretty high demand..

shortyz go make me a horn loaded enclosure

Re:making BOV sound cooler

alright.. here's my experience for the day... I did a nice patch job on my BOV so it had a large trumpet outlet type deal... Looked like one wicked BOV... went for a drive and it was LESS loud.. I couldn't even hear it.

ripped it off and wasted 15 mins :)

sk8rmike 05-31-2003 09:43 AM

Re:making BOV sound cooler

if you want a loud ass BOV, go buy the turbo XS RFL type H =P

i scare old women in my girls GSX lol
that thing is stupid loud

Re:making BOV sound cooler

Greddy Type-s at 15psi sounds really good.. its not that pigeon sound like when its ran at 6psi...

i have two bosch bov's one that came on my VW and another that came from a mocked up turbo kit... i havent heard them vent yet.. i guess ill try it out..

Re:making BOV sound cooler

I'm a mazda/VW tech at the dealership I'm a tech. at. I see the Bosche ones off VW's for $20 shipped if anyone interested. They just make a swoosh sound like most common BOV's when they're not used a recirculating valves. But you can always tell when those Bosche ones are starting to go bad cause they'll make a flutering sound not a swoosh sound when shifting. When it does that it means the BOV is dead and needs to be replaced. I've had to do a bunch on 1.8T VW's especially the 99'-00' 1.8T Jetta Wolfsburg editions.

someone said something about the BOV spuddering, my friend got a HKS SSQV for his eclipse and now its spuddering , does that mean its gone bad?

Re:making BOV sound cooler

hahahaha they never want to race. it's funny as ---- seeing the look on their faces.Yea it's a kodak moment. It's soooooooo frustrating though. Why is it when I had my old D15 Dx motor I could find people left and right and was doing o.k. for a 85HP motor. Now that I have all this crap done to my car everytime I race another honda or any car for that matter we both take off ( From a light or roll ) and I start pulling on their little SOHC's and they stop. Always. The last three times I've raced people I haven't even made it to the top of 2nd gear when they stop cause they end up seeing I didn't spend my money on Bodykits , wings , lights , fancy rims ,etc. like some other honda owners do. Damn this sucks. This is one of the reasons I think I'm starting to get out of street racing. You sit there and make your car hella fast and none of the punks that before were rev.ing on you want to go.

vaccuum is what opens the valve. do you guys who are criticizing me here even know how a BOV works? at full vaccuum, the valve is open. therefore it SHOULD leak slightly at idle.

as i said before, people have used that BOV to over 20psi without any problems. their effectiveness as a BOV is directly related to the mechanical ability of the person using them. if you want to spend $200 to get the same effect, that's your business. i'll stick with my $10 part..

Special FX 06-02-2003 05:56 PM

Re:making BOV sound cooler

Word. At idle, it better be damned close to open or it's never gonna work right. When it's blowing off, you will see ~ 30 inches vacuum and ~ 20-22 at idle.

Tie the vacume hose coming off your Blow/off in a knot. You will most probly get compressor surge, and your turbo life will drop dramatically, But at least it will sound cool :P
