Will it fit? heh heh heh.
10 seconds, here i come...

Hey everyone!
So, i totalled my 98 c5 vette... Insurance company didn't want to pay me what i wanted, so parting it out is making me a fair amount of extra change... Plus it gives me an LS1 to play with!
Attachment 8463

I'm not a newbie, been around this board for years... EVEN ON THE FRONT PAGE ONCE W/ THE TURBO SUZUKI BANDIT!
but been around Turbo projects for a while...
95 civic turbo'd Dyno'd 404whp
04 Suzuki bandit 1200cc Dyno'd 260whp (Search: Tony the Tiger suzuki Youtube)
Turbo'd my 120hp 4 stroke Outboard on my Checkmate 16' boat.

This is my new project!::::::::::::::::
2000 s10 single cab short bed. 2.2L 5-spd
179xxx miles
Few rust spots and dents
Bought the truck for $1000 buckaroos!!! from a chap up in New Hampshire.
I pretty much stole it i think.

This truck is perfect for my project. It has the 5 speed, 2wd, NO A/C!! so no box under the hood to deal with for clearance.

Basic rundown of the numerical alphabet soup plans.
S10 - truck
LS1, basic strength mods. ARP rodbolts, headbolts, Compcam Valve springs, pushrods
GM Hotcam
BRIB underdrive pulley
T56 - 6 speed
T70 Turbocharger (single) 8psi to start
8.8 - Ford rear end 3.73 gears, limited slip, disc brakes, ladder bars (5.0 explorer rear end)
8.8 Rear end is 31 spline!!!! Yes!

Goal of 550whp!Just for a start~
Lets see how it goes! 550 i want to the wheel... I'm limited by stock pistons/rods... but i got some re-assurance. ARP Rod bolts, head bolts, conservative timing, 93 octane, etc...
By pulling timing and upping boost to 12psi~ i should be well over 600 to the wheel in my 3,045 lbs S10. The stock LS1 timing map is very aggressive, which is why it requires 91 octane. Not high compression, but very aggressive timing... So pull some of that out, more boost = more hp safely.

There she is! The new s-10!!!!!!
That's also my "new.to.me" daily driver, 02 SVT focus. Peppy little car, fun to drive.
There in the garage is what's left of the Vette getting parted out.
Poppa-Dukes Jeep in the pic too, and mamma-dukes Honda

i WANTED to keep it cheap... but it didn't turn out that way. Through selling the parts off the 98 vette, i am making way more than expected, so i reached a little more into my pocketbook than i originally wanted.

Anyway, here's a basic breakdown:
I'll update this list as i go, and keep adding things to the "I Wanna Buy It" thread haha.

Cut twice, measure once! HMT!

...UPDATE... i have discoverd the EDIT button.... you can only EDIT once you made it... if i go to a different webpage, and come back... i can no longer Edit $hit!!!! this sucks... so, you'll just have to sift through pages i guess.

Scott-EP 04-21-2009 08:01 PM

The edit is timed and not if you go and come back. I think it's like 5 min or something. I also think it's homo.

Nice build though, can't wait to see how it goes

vortecfiero 04-21-2009 08:24 PM

watching this one for sure

damn that looks good. i hope you make a decent amoutn from that part out it sucks that you crashed it. but the new project is unique, better in my opinion

RMSE 04-22-2009 05:35 PM

Awesome build . You don't always need the right tool just ingenuity to get the job done.

geofarace 04-22-2009 11:08 PM

cant wait to see this I have a friend that is working on a 93s10 with a 572Ci!!

Why not use the 5.0 HO 302?

Turbo10 04-29-2009 10:43 PM

boring... You pop the hood and people say "WOW is that a 302" and walk off. LOL

RyAn007 04-30-2009 12:20 PM

Haha, but when you setup to race them and you have a good tune and build they sing another song.

Hey ladies.
So this past weekend the new rear axle got put in… The Ford 8.8 rear. Awesome axle swap, especially for the price.
Ford 9” rear’s go for $2,000 complete, plus they require fabrication to fit.
My Ford 8.8” rear is direct bolt in!!!! $400 from the salvage yard out of a 95+ explorer. I also Sold my stock axle 20 mins after I took it out as well for $100 on craigslist.
Best parts about this new axle: 3.73 gears, Limited slip, Ladder bars, Disc brakes, 31 spline axles. To do all this to a Ford 9”, or even to modify my stock axle, would have been WAY MORE THAN THE $300 it cost me! So for the dollars spent, this was a hell of a deal.
$400 for the axle
-$100 old axle
$30 U bolt kit and lowering blocks
$45 Ford U joint flange
So for $375, I think it’s a HELL of a mod.

Hopefully this axle will handle the Hoosiers I wanna get: 29”x12”- 15 drag slicks. I think a 12” wide tire should be good enough to make up for the zero weight in the back of this thing.
Hoosier 18190D06 - Hoosier Drag Slicks

new BRIB underdrive pulley, and headers.

Row row row your truck… gently past the Honda!

Attachment 8295

Check out how much BEEFIER the 8.8 is than the stock GM 7.5

Attachment 8296
Attachment 8297

If only I was using the stock 2.2L and t5 tranny… then the drive shaft would have lined up perfectly w/ the 8.8!

Attachment 8298

Doin work:

Attachment 8299
Attachment 8300

The rear has 2” lowering blocks. Hoefully w/ the heavier engine in front, the front should come down 2” as well… If not, I might just cut off half a coil out of the front spring.

Attachment 8301
Attachment 8302

The Rear axle (8.8) was 6” wider overall from hub to hub than the 7.5. Luckily, the stock jeep wrangler tires I had lying around were the right Lug pattern (5x4.5), and also the perfect offset! Check it out!

SO… why didn’t I get anything else done this weekend????
Two reasons… I had to finish making a passenger seat for the woman… and help a friend put his LS/vtec engine in his honda. Built, and turbod… should be 350whp~~ He’s my hired help paid in returned help.

Attachment 8309

^ He didn’t trust my Schwab Shop Customs welding job on his engine mounts… So I showed him I could dance on his valve cover… THEN I made him dance too, and snagged a Polaroid of his stupidity…

Zip Lock bags and Zip ties… I think Zip Branigan shoulda put this on… How to stop ---- from going into the gas tank:

haha, oh yea? what sucks about it? All the seams are straight, no crinkled fabric, seat foam is all shaped to match the lines of the bike...

i think you're talking so much bullshit that you're stinky breath is bleaching my hair all the way over here across the interwebs.

In other news... Engine harness arrived from Jared at Current Performance this week, that will get set up, stock engine will be pulled, and new engine put in this weekend... pics to ensue~

You have seams, where they shouldn't be. You don't have seams, where they need to be. Top stitching looks horrid. Wrong type of vinyl for application. Dont get me wrong, I have seen a lot worse, but its not by all means good.

Heres what GOOD upholstery work looks like. Of course this is it a $95/hour labor rate.

A- if it's custom, and it's MINE, not YOURS.... how can you say where there SHOULD and SHOULDN'T be seams???

B- you have NO idea what kind of vinyl i used from looking at a picture, therefore you can't say i used the wrong type, therefore eat a shoe. (besides, there are two types, not one).. but i'm sure you didnt see that from the picture either.

C- I didn't do the stitching... stitching came from something else that was upholstered by the factory... I don't use girly sewing machines, nor a needle and thread.

D- You're ignorant... talking about my bike seats when you have no idea. You just got owned by my Back-yard / basement upholstery knowledge. Try again.

IN OTHER NEWS.... THE ENGINE IS IN THE TRUCK!!!!!!!!! pics coming monday-ish.
1- Clutch STILL isn't here... it's been close to 2 months
2- Oil Sandwich adapter is WRONG size again... how many different types of PF48 filters are there in California? silly teenage pimply parts counter worker... had to send it back again.
3- ARP headbolts, WRONG ONES AGAIN!. 1st set came from local speed shop guy... Small block chevy bolts. NOT LS1!. Returned them... 2nd set came from Ebay. ordered for LS1 specific. Box arrives, i look inside... they are LS6 bolts. WRONG AGAIN! sending them back tomorrow morning, hopefully get the right ones this time.

qsiguy 05-05-2009 02:03 AM

Awesome build, looking forward to more progress, pics, and videos. Years ago a buddy of mine had an S-10 Blazer with a Vette motor in it. It was very fast. A tight fit if I recall correctly, no turbo on his.

arok22 05-05-2009 10:44 AM

This thread makes me want to buy a truck. Love the S10... can't wait to see it done and some dyno numbers. HP should be nuts!
