Default Limits of Cryo treatment

Ok, so I have read page after page of how its done ... and increases hardness by 30% ..... etc

Most of the info I can find is related to treatment of cranks/gears/cams/valvetrain etc

and I am interested in treatment of rods and pistons, and specifically if it increases their HP limits.

Like the limit of stock B series rods/pistons tends to be around 300WHP ... so has anybody pushed the limits of cryo treated rods/pistons ??

Please help me search . TIA

you're right, I have seen on a few occasions stock short blocks doing 350hp ...but generally speaking most people consider around 300WHP to be about as much as stock B series rods/pistons can handle "safely" ...

I am wondering if cryo supposedly increases hardness by 30% would that roughly increase the rod/piston HP capacity by 30% ?? So that 390whp would be just as "safe" as 300whp on stock rods

I am currently trying to get a quote to freeze a set of rods and pistons to compare cost .... I don't think it will be all that exspensive ....

but then you would still need forged pistons.... and then you're lookin at around $500 or so of an investment for both

I am just trying to find a cheaper alternative to run 400HP or a little less ...

My mothers business does this to razer blades to increase the lifespan of then. They use them to slit rolls of plastic. It increases the Hardness of the material, but also the brittleness. IMO you want a little bit of plyability to the rods otherwise to much load and they will snap easier.

I agree you dont want them to be brittle or they will shear off. I dont think anyone is going to know this, so your on your own for testing. I do agree that I would just cough of the cash and do it right but who knows it might work good. :P

I bet you would have to get the parts machined again after too. I can almost bet that all you're tolerences would be gone on the pistons and rods
