Lightening my flywheel, any advice...

K so im wrapping up my build, should be on the streets again before xmas... Im gonna get my flywheel resurfaced and I figured while its off why not shave of a pound or a few. Just had a few questions first. How much weight should i drop? Im running a mini ram w/ a 48./.60 TDO4 so im thinking lag isnt gonna be a major issue. I was thinking bout just shaving maybe 2 pounds, at that... will it really matter? How much am I looking to spend? Anyone got any advice or wanna put in theyre 2 cents?

my two cents :

bring the friction surface to an even and maximal thickness
take nothing from the centre at all
and remove as much from the outer edge as you can without compromising strength.

on my mazda flywheel i lost about 2 - 3 pounds following that regime

i did it to make it fit. the benefit isnt that great for normal use.

7.5 lb flywheel on the D/Holset.

No complaints.

OEM flywheel....no mods... just run Type R ---- :6

oh and for reference... the ITR one is just like fe3tcourier described... just weight removed from the outside and only a couple lbs...if i didnt already have an R one i would have just run a standard PR3...

lightened flywheels might be more geared to na setups, just run a extra psi :1

2 pounds isnt making a difference and most shops will charge around 100+for that work. better off just buying an aftermarket unit if you want to go that route. I always went to 12 lbs on factory d flywheels. Factory weight is around 18 lbs.

Just run the stock flywheel. Up the boost. Done.

I had a lightened flywheel on my a6, and I didnt like it at all. It would really fall off between shifts. Not alot but I didnt see any faster spool/revs. So I would def spend my money elswhere.
