find a first generation DSM blow off valve, 20-30 dollars should be the price range for that, nothing fancy. but I have heard that you need to stay away from 2g BOV's. Correct me if I am wrong, but they wear out real quick and leak.

Depends on the boost level. A 1g DSM valve will be all most HMT users will need. They can be made to hold 30psi, and flow enough for pretty decent power. Most plastic BOV's can handle 12-15psi. Another metal valve that can be found in the yard are off of Volvos, they are said to be able to handle as much as a DSM valve and have convenient hose clamp ends so you won't need to get a flange. I've only ever seen two styles of volvo valves, built into the turbo, and metal one. It's bolted to the cylinder head and can be easily mistaken for something else.

Yes, but as soon as you take off the recirculation fitting, they are then blow off valves. There is nothing special about a compressor bypass valve (CBV) except that there is a method of putting the vented air back into the intake tract, weather that's through a hose fitting, integrated into the turbo, or integrated into the air box. I've been running a vented DSM CBV for years and years and years. I also have a plastic dodge unit that I'm running that had to be cut from the stock airbox to get it to fit my application, it's loud as ----.

As far as I know the only ones that ever came with a turbo, thusly requiring a BOV in the USA were the Talon, Eclipse, and Laser. For what it's worth, the new GTR uses what looks like two 1G DSM valves http://www.ridelust.com/wp-content/u...t-r_engine.jpg 1G FTMFW.
